Came here late one night. We were seated immediately. F had a big burrito that he loved I had tacos so good. Reasonable. Deals on drinks. Would definitely go back.

Good was mediocre at best. Service was slow. Salsa was good but we were unimpressed with the guac and truck tacos.

About 10 years ago, an old co-worker told me about Juan's late one night after we pulled a double waiting tables ourselves. We were starving and wanted a cheap place that we could get some good grub. She insisted on Juan's and I've been a happy customer since. Cheap, fresh food jam-packed full of flavor. It's the perfect Mexican place for ppl that don't like Mexican since it's not authentic Tex-Mex. But once you have one bite, you won't be able to stop. I like both locations but maybe it's because I knew of Juan's when there was only one, but I prefer the original location on Magazine. The ambience is cooler and the customers are more hipsters and punks rather than the yuppies at the Mid-City location. Also think the portions here are a little bigger than the Mid-City location. I try to order something different every time I come here. Never been disappointed. Love their fajitas and have tried all the different meat options. My favorite would be the shrimp and portobello. So much flavor in those mushrooms! The shrimp is cooked perfectly but not as perfectly seasoned as the chicken. They've got tons of vegetarian options so I love coming here with my vegetarian friends or whenever I'm in a meatless options. They still jam pack the flavors in the veggies so I never feel like I'm missing out. I highly recommend the sweet potato quesadilla. Thank me later. I also love their nachos. Big enough to feed two. The only thing I don't like are their black beans. There's so much juice that come with them, it ends up making everything it touches soggy. I also like my beans softer their just cooked texture. So I usually ask for my dishes without it. Guac is homemade but don't bother order the salsa or guac app. Portion will be a tiny ramekin and they will charge you another order if you ask for extra sauce (another ramekin). I usually get the queso which is white cheddar queso with sausage crumbles. I usually have enough time to get a handful of chips and dip before the food arrives.

WOW - Just wow. I was visiting NOLA this weekend and decided to walk up Magazine street to hit the stores - turns out we were walking for an hour before we saw any store. All of a sudden we saw Juans and decided to give it a whirl. Boy were we PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. Redfish taco - best fish taco I have had to date (and I eat them pretty often) Vegetable Burrito - UNREAL....even for a veggie burrito. All of the ingredients were equally spread throughout the burrito so when you took a bite you got a mix of EVERYTHING. We all know what it feels like when places section in out due to laziness and your eating a bite of each ingredient. The margaritas were also top notch - super strong and only 6 bucks...8 bucks for patron! HIGHLY RECOMMEND GIVING THIS PLACE A CHANCE - no it isn't southern food, but it is a NOLA GEM IF YOU ASK ME!!!!!!

The Western Burrito and a popstar. Man, I love these guys! Delicious food, good prices, FAST, outside is dog-friendly (in front only), take cash and card, nice people, fun ambiance. I go about weekly, if not 2-3x/wk. Their quesadilla with ground beef is pretty poor, though. Stick with the JFB, Western or nachos. SO GOOD.

The Luau is my personal favorite. The rest of my family is pretty loyal to the pork and slaw tacos. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in the city!

*DISCLAIMER* If you love death metal blasting your cochlear nerve to bits while you try to place your order, you should go back up and read the 5 star reviews. This review does not mention the food. I eat at the Juan's on Carrollton pretty regularly and assume the food is about the same at this one. I went there with my girlfriend because we were out shopping and figured that it was one of our favorite mid-city destinations, why not pop into the one on Magazine. We were seated in the back section directly under a loud speaker blasting (and I am not an elderly curmudgeon that needs silence while I eat) and I mean BLASTING death metal. It wouldn't matter what type of music it was because it was entirely too loud no matter what the genre, but the...shall we say--abrasive nature of death metal prompted me to solicit my waiter with a request to at least turn down the music, if not eliminate it completely. His reply, "Sorry man, can't do it. The manager loves this stuff and he won't turn it down." My reply, "Seriously? Like, I am going to have to leave because how can anybody hear themselves think in here?" As we are standing up to leave the waiter says "Yeah this happens all the time, you aren't the first." Holy crap moron manager you are losing business, the server is losing tips, the staff is probably losing their minds and you need to get a freaking iPod if you want to blast your holes out with that garbage.

Super yummy. Also super cold, but the food-induced satisfaction outweighed that. I had the Blackened redfish tacos and it was absolutely delicious. My Texas-raised boyfriend said it was his new favorite place in New Orleans, which is high praise from him! The service was also perfect. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is that the guac didn't seem to be homemade. Nevertheless, I will be back soon!

I really hesitate to do this, but I have to take one star off my review for a single reason: service issues. Most of the staff at Juan's are great and offer perfect service, but there have now been a few times when it was just poor. One time our waiter ignored our table while chatting and, at one point, leaving the restaurant for an extended period. He isn't there any longer, but it took a while for him to be let go with a few more visits experienced with sub-par service (we seemed cursed to get him as a waiter). Another time I was waiting for a to-go order and an older gentleman, ostensibly an ower or manager, noticed I was leaning on a steel cooler and told me brusquely: "excuse me, ya'll get off that cooler." It felt rude. The request could have been a great deal more polite. There's really nowhere for people waiting for to-go orders to be if the bar is full, which is another issue (maybe move the cooler and put in a bench?). These are definitely the exceptions to the rule. Juan's usually hires very, very good servers and staff. I'm very hesitant to eliminate a star here I would never advise a fan of good Mexican (well, "Creole-Mex") food to avoid Juan's.

I actually like this location better than the one on Carrollton, because the location on Carrollton is extremely small and is "ALWAYS" pack to the walls!!! lol But you know that means the food is AAAAAHHHMAZING!!! Yummy Tacos, Burritos, and etc..etc.. This PLACE IS A SURE BET FOR TEX-MEX!!! YUMMY! XOXO

Wow!! Excellent burritos and I'm from CA. Super fresh tortillas made it 5 stars. We got the jerk chicken and signature flying burrito. Both excellent. Started with the bacon beans which might have been to much food, but very much enjoyable after walking through the garden district.

I obviously do not get it about this place because I think it is sub par. I have eaten here a total of about 3 times but the last time was today I would never go because I have never had a good meal here but friends insisted saying it had improved. so I went along for the ride I got the cheese enchiladas. I know boring but I like that and its kind of the first thing I try at any Mexican place. it came out in like less than 15 mins, no exaggeration. not sure what that was about. it was cold and not that good. beans were good, rice was not. my friends order some chips and this maxed out dip that did not look good, kind of a queso but I did not even try it. looked 'goopy' my friends both ordered the quesedillas. I tried the pork one which was pretty good. my other friend ordered the highly recommended by staff goat cheese and steak one and did not like it. I took it home to feed to the dog if you are just the least bit of a foody or know good food then avoid this place I am glad there is a place in the LGD that is popular and if people like it fine. this place is packed like a lot of mediocre places in NOLA. if anyone tells you no place with bad food survives in nola they are wrong. by the way the service was excellent

Juan's is one of my go to spots for lunch, no matter if I'm famished or just peckish. looking for a halfway healthy meal or trying to give my cardiaologist a coronary. Of course, the burritos are amazing-veggie punk in particular, but that is only a small part of the story. Quesedillas are tasty, with some interesting variations (if I still ate meat, that bacon Azul would be in my belly frequently); there are some strange tacos as well-the wild tchoupitoulas is vegetarian and crazy good, all the while being weird for its cole slaw with spicy/creamy mustard dressing; the cheese enchiladas (boring! you say...wrong! I retort) are my fave ever and finally, Juan's is one of the spots in town where you can buy the amazing, sometimes ingeniously odd cupcakes crafted by my longtime pal, real-life gorgeous soccer mom Krissy Rosenson. Gingerbread with mango buttercream anyone? Banana split with a cherry on top? How about the old school, a recreation of the classic Hostess cupcake (with the little white squiggle on top), only superior to the original by a factor of 8.2 million!

yum. yum. yum. chowed down on the indian tacos after a long day of dancing and damn, did they refuel me. they are so delicious and the sauce is just right. the decor is wonderfully nola inspired and the staff is friendly. their desserts are lacking but the tacos are great.

Delicious shrimp burrito and tasty Hard Shine Lemonade!

  • A Q.

For better or worse, I keep coming back to Juan's. Huge free refills on iced tea and lemonade (or a mix of both), and the burritos are as "inauthentic" as can be, but both imaginative and delish. Some of the waitstaff are peaches, and some are awful. You get a free refill on chips and guac! Al like refills.

I just discovered this place 2 days ago, and we have eaten here twice already. The food is outstanding, and very fresh. No questionable chicken here. The spice is just right, and the flavors are perfect. Good service, great price. Parking was pretty easy. Although, we did drive through floods to get there, so maybe parking was influenced by the rising dirty water.

Loved this place. The Dollar PBRs during happy hour were perfect. I had the black and gold burrito with the extra point (queso) and it was amazing. I didn't think I'd finish but I plowed through until I reached the climax. Loved the laid back atmosphere, will return if I'm ever back in NOLA.

When I came to New Orleans two years ago, I went through some serious Chipotle withdrawal. It had become a staple in my diet. Fortunately, I found Juans to give me that big burrito fix. Juans might actually be better. Mmm... delicious.

The best margarita in town, plus the nicest wait staff. We go every week we love it that much. I have had several things on the menu: Quesadillas, Taco Salad, Fajitas, Flying Enchiladas, Jerk Chicken Nachos, Shrimp and Mango Salad...all wonderful. The only thing I'm not as impressed with are the tacos but who cares....there is so much wonderful stuff to choose from...and I LOVE everything else. The people are so great there...really they are absolutely wonderful. The prices are great too. Catch happy hour 3-7 every day but Saturday and all day on Sunday. Try the frozen Mango Margarita or Frozen Raspberry Mojito. This is by far one of the best restaurants in town and way better than the other location.

Invisible, clear cheese? OK , Momma didn;t raise no fool. I like cheese, that is why when you asked me if I wanted cheese, I said yes. Cheese improves the flavor of most foods, foods including the tacos I ordered. That is why I was miffed about not having cheese on my tacos. Extra miffed when you tried to blow smoke up my ass and said it was on the bottom, melted. You think I am THAT dumb? Forty two years of eating well didin't give me hips like this for nothing! Well, minus 2 for the silly lie you really should not shit a diner like myself. My husband was embarrassed for you. Minus one right there. Now, please remember for next time, the Mrs. likes the cheese, not the invisible, clear, and tasteless cheese, BUT the pre packaged, pre shredded cheddar style cheese. Thanks again Juan.

I adore Juan's! I have been going there the past 8 years and can't recall a time I was ever disappointed. I am a creature of habit, so my meal is always the same (chicken burrito with rice, beans and cheese), but it is always delish! The chips are pretty good and I have been told their guac is yummy, though I have never tasted it (not a guac fan). Ambiance is pretty cool; the only downside is the wait that you may incur if you get their around dinner time.

  • Lauren L.

God I miss this place. I think my husband and I ate here at least once a week during college and twice during our 6 day visit last spring =) The quesadillas (pre-vegan days) are amazing with a crispy outside and lots of cheese! Make sure to use their homemade tomatillo salsa in the squirt bottles that they have on the tables. It makes everything awesome!

Happened upon this place on a recent trip to NOLA earlier this month.(Dec. 11th to be exact) What a find!!! Great service along with inventive and tasty food. Never in my life have I heard of a Creole Taqueria and at first was skeptical. I figured I was only in town for a couple of days and should try something new. Some Mardi Gras Indian Tacos preceded by the Beans and Rice with Chips were all it took to win me over. I also had a chance to try one of the salads with the Chile-Lime-Vinaigrette....awesome. I am not a vegetarian by any standards but this place could easily convert me.

Great spot! My visit was the morning after a night of too much drinking (Super Bowl). I liked the big tables and a friendly staff who were happy to let me eat leisurely and recover. both the homemade guacamole and the Western Steak burrito were as good as any I've ever had.

  • Lindsay C.

I have visited both Juan's locations and both visits were good dining experiences. The staff was friendly and the food (burrito and quesadilla) was chock full of ingredients, full of flavor and had just the right amount of heat. I had to use 2 hands to eat the burrito. Sweet...spicy...cheesy...delicious! Chips are good too. Kick back with an Abita and you have a great meal. Service was a little slow (which was surprising because it wasn't that busy) but it was worth the wait. There is outside seating at the Magazine street location which is great for nice nights.

As a vegetarian on vacation, Juan's saved my life (okay, so that's a bit over the top..but they did save my trip.) I had been scavenging the city for any sort of vegetable and after 3 days of sub-par cuisine, this place won me over. And here's why: Mardi Gras Indian tacos. The best combination of flavours in a taco that my mouth has ever experienced. Add to that their home made habanero hot sauce, my mouth was sizzling and I couldn't stop smiling. Good thing the bartendress knew how to conjure up a tasty michilada to put that fire out and talk up some out-of-towners to boot. Go, get the tacos, you won't regret it.

Another in the "finally got around to checking it out" category. We thought it was really good. Food tasted fresh and high quality. I had the pork fajitas and my girlfriend had the fish tacos, and both were delicious. I like that the margaritas come in a big glass instead of one of those tiny jobbers. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday night, but we found the service was not surly in the least and it wasn't too noisy either. Mildly surprised you don't get free chips and salsa.

  • Ann M.

Pretty good. After waiting for the bus for what felt like freaking forever, we ran to the nearest place to eat on magazine st. Cool setup. We had to wait a tad to get a table, but overall service was great. I had the Mardi Gras Indians tacos, which I expected to be anything but blah, and somehow the ended up just being kind of bland. The chips and guac, however, were great. I guess I just wish I would've gotten something else as the main dish.

Ok...I'm going to start by saying that the food was great!!! This is Not Authentic Mexican food, but if you no this before eating here you won't be disappointed...The Nachos are yummie!! It's Big enough for 2 ppl and the Burrito was filled with meat/things...I call this the Cajun Creole Mexican Eatery...My reason for giving Juan's 3 stars was that the waitress was disrespectful...I'm going to start by saying that her service was good, but when the bill was paid(credit card)she give us the card back and we sign the receipt, also we TIP her(Ms.Tattoo w/cute face art) In CASH...We put the cash in the credit card holder, so I guess she didn't see it...O My Gosh!!! She chased behind us as we were leaving out the door and she said loudly "Was my service not good" we said yes it was very good, so she says "Why you didn't tip me"...Everyone outside and inside heard this...I was out done by this and than when she found out we Tip her, she did not even say Sorry or Thank You...I hope the next time she checks her table before putting customers on the spot...I really felt as if this was 1920 and we were being jugde, if you know what I mean...I wasn't going to review this but it needed to be said...Note: this happened about 3wks ago on a Sunday evening

Best.Tacos.Ever. Every time I come in town, Juan's is my first stop on the way in from the airport. Something about those super nachos grande just changes my world. Delish.

Now... I was only in town for four days, but I ate a lot of food in New Orleans... That said, this was by far my favorite. It was bliss for my vegetarian friend. I had never tried crawfish before so the queso dip sounded like a good place to start. It was great as were the chips and salsa... The jerk chicken burrito and red fish tacos were both amazing and full of flavor. I also tried a frozen mojito and after walking most of the day it was just the right balance of crisp and refreshing. The service was very good and no one rushed us to leave... we may have had a few cocktails that afternoon. I'm trying to think of at least one critical comment to make but I really can't. On the day I was there, this place just really hit the spot! If I ever am fortunate enough to return to NOLA, I will be back to Juan's!

I spent 3 weeks in New Orleans and this quickly became one of my favorite places. The nachos, salads, tacos, burritos are all wonderful! Huge portions, great atmosphere, easy-going staff. HIGHLY recommend!

this is one of my favorite lunch spots! i love the veggie punk burrito and the mardi gras indian tacos! they also make some kick-butt guacamole at this place and really good salsa too! grab a table on the sidewalk, a pitcher of margarita, this yummy food- and share with a pal. or, head inside and soak in the eclectic vibes - from the art on the walls, to the music, to the folks who serve you! very good food! good prices! good service! awesome atmosphere!

This place is really overrated in my opinion. Not that its bad, but I wasnt all that impressed with anything. Ive been twice, the first time the food was average and the drinks were TERRIBLE. Thats not an exaggeration, it was probably one of the worst drinks Ive ever had served to me. The second time I didnt get a drink, but the food was still just average. Its definitely not the best mexican in the city, despite what the hipster regulars might tell you.

  • Claire C.

A couple frozen margaritas with patron may have biased the experience a little, but I have some pretty sweet memories at Juan's. Mostly, that the luau quesadilla and the pork n' slaw tacos were mighty tasty and that the super nachos grande hit the spot (as nachos grande usually do, but super-ly so). Everything, including shrimp, chips, pineapple, and salsa, tasted really fresh and homemade. Yeah it's not "authentic" and it's no fancy joint, but it serves its purpose. Although I do remember service being spotty and the place closing reallyyy early.

  • Courtie D.

Love it! I havent been disappointed at either the Magazine location or the Carrollton site. Try the Jhuaca Rolls, the Gutter Punk, or the Jerk Chicken. All good choices, never a let down. A little loud on Magazine sometimes and a little crowded on Carrollton, but I'll keep going back!

    (4)
  • Courtney B.

Sometimes Juan's will get on my nerves, but that is because I go here so much (the one on Magazine), something is bound to bug me once in a while. Usually it is the crowds of college kids trying to be too cool for school. Sometimes it is a lackluster margarita. But nine times out of ten I love my pork and slaw tacos or the infamous Flying Burrito or the cheesy bean and rice dip. I love the atmosphere, with the loud very bizarre mix of music (eagles of death metal right after disco) and the local art, though I can see how some people might find it a bit much. I also love the owners, so I maybe I am biased. For some reason, even though it is very close to my house, I just can't bring myself to go to the one in Mid City. Food is fine, but the vibe is just not the same. That being said, it seems to be more family oriented so if that is what you seek, then by all means go to the one on Carrollton.

  • Tallie K.

I love Juan's when I need some good, tasty food. My favorite is a mango mojito (frozen of course) with the pork and slaw tacos. They are spicy in a Nola kind of way. But the pork is perfectly juciy and the slaw has just a little crunch to it. If I am feeling crazy, I get the chicken verde enchiladas. Either way, if you want consistently yummy semi-mexican with a little nola add in for flavor...Juan's is the place to go!

  • Wendolyn V.

OMG freaking delicious!!! This place bills itself as a "creole taqueria," and it delivers on flavor. I had a sweet n' green quesadilla on my first visit, and the cheese enchiladas on my second. I really appreciate the vegan options too, though I didn't try them. The staff were friendly and helpful when it came to deciding what to drink (strawberry frozen mojito is pretty yum), and the ambiance is fun and funky -- rock music, tattooed servers, colorful chalk writing on the walls, and upcycled lighting fixtures. Wish I had a place like this at home!!!

i really like this place - good food, drinks, and service with reasonable prices and generous portions. the combo starter is a must and i usually get a pork/beef enchilada or burrito dish. everything i've had has been good. also, i appreciate that they're not afraid of spice or heat in the food, which is as it should be.

We went here with our friends that live in new orleans. The place was packed on a Friday night but the waited wasn't bad. At first the place looked like a casual mexican place, but after I tasted the steak quesidilla I was blown away. It was the best quesidillas I have ever had. It was a steak bacon goat cheese quesidilla. Also it was really big. the atmosphere was cozy and staff was friendly. If you are in the garden district I would recommend this place.

  • Jessie L.

The food was good. Not great, just good. And that is about where the happiness ends. The waiter came over to us after about 10 minutes of waiting with practically no one in the place and barely put the menus down before he was hounding us for our drink order. He actually tapped his foot as I decided! I barely got my drink order out when he was asking for my dinner. um.... May I have a second to look at the menu, breathe maybe? We finally ordered and while we were waiting, saw another waiter with a table and he was telling them specials and offering them chips while they waited. We got none of that. We should have realized our waiter was no good when he chased after a previous customer for not tipping. We got our food and enjoyed it. The waiter however, did not come back once to check on us, or offer us anything until we were finished. He even grabbed my half-full beer and cleared it while I was in the bathroom. I'm sure the experience would have been better with a different waiter, but I don't even want to find out anymore.

okay if you want real mexican food - this is probably not the place to go. also i think i may be biased just coming from CA. i got the taco salad and it was not good. i should have probably stuck with tacos instead. we got 3 little tacos with a cabbage topping and it was actually very very good. i wish i would have just gotten that as a meal... i kind of crave it right now...

I used to work 3 doors down from this place and pretty much ate lunch there everyday. I was obsessed with their nachos. Probably, no absolutely, the best I have ever had. The artwork inside is incredible and the staff are not only very friendly, but very interesting to look at too=) There's outdoor seating and lots of room inside as well. Their margaritas are amazing and will get you pissed in no time flat, so be careful on that.

Quick tips: Delicious and deceivingly strong house margaritas. They have one of my favorite quesos. Veggie tacos are build your own - onions spinach and bell peppers made for a good mix, they have loads of veggies to choose from. Food: um i love their queso, I want to bathe in the queso. The only drawback was the queso was a little bit small, but I guess if I wanted to bathe in it, anything would be small. The combo tacos are best with the double layered corn tortillas. Don't forget the house margarita, which is so well crafted you forget you are drinking tequila until you are stumbling out the door after your second (yes I'm a lightweight!) Service: great service! Our waiter was super nice and funny. Ambiance- I wish they had a better waiting area in the front. There was a long line to eat, but we were served quickly. Have a margarita while you wait and go window shopping!

This place has some damn stellar texmex. The food is good, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the margaritas are strong and inexpensive. What exactly is anyone complaining about?! If you're unsure on what to order, get the luau quesadilla. I promise you will not regret it. Bonus points for having a menu that can accommodate veggie, vegan, and gluten free diets. Extra bonus points for the consistently awesome throwback playlists. I am so down with your appreciation of the 90s pop punk.

Delicious and HUGE burrito. Very authentic compared to the "mexican" we get in Boston (where I live). The frozen margaritas were also delicious (though a little sweet for my taste) and also HUGE. I would definitely go here again!

What better type of food to eat your first night in New Orleans than Mexican. Can't help it, love the shit out of Mexican food even when in Cajun country. The food Was solid. Guac and salsa were fine (not amazing, but satisfactory). Queso was very good. I had taco sandwiches, tasted like a fresher/better version of double decker tacos. Dining partner had jerk chicken which I liked a lot. Best part though? The drinks and the service. Both were excellent.

not sure about all these rave reviews..if you ever make mexican food at home you can make better burritos. Every burrito ever eaten here has been cold in the middle. The place needs a thorough cleaning. It is hard to believe in this day and age food this mediocre still gets rave reviews. me no get it.

Very good menu, including the "Supergreen" burrito that can easily be made vegan. Service is a little brusque, but that actually makes the experience feel somehow more genuine. My companion observed that it should be called "Sid's Zipperhead Tacos" due to the punk-ish staff and clientele. Great spot.

Best. taco. ever. Best. Popsicle. Ever. Magazine street is cool as hell and this eatery is on par. The tatted-up staff are friendly and way hipper than I expected. My margarita was delish, salsa was worth ordering twice and the prices weren't crazy. When I come back to the Big Easy I'm going here!!

Literally the best tex mex food around! Strong drinks & fast service! Highly recommend the western burrito and cucumber margarita. Delicious!

I've been here a few times. I liked the drinks. I remember the hawaiian nachos being good because of the toppings...the nachos themselves were standard. However I wasn't a fan of the fish tacos. And the burritos, the namesake of the place, were surprisingly not very good. They just aren't very flavorful and are not put together well...a burrito should be rolled such that every bite is mixed well...they just throw things in there and roll it, so you could get a mouthful of tortilla in one bite, a mouthful of meat in another, a mouthful of beans in another, and a mouthful of the toppings in another. Poor form.

No frills Tex-Mex with a New Orleans touch located in the LGD. They have multiple margaritas on their menu but I've only had the house rox. If you're looking for a mixologist in the back to make these to order, not the place to go. But, if you plan to enjoy a pitcher - yes pitcher - with friends while scarfing down the chips before your burrito this is the place. I've had the al pastor and jerk chicken burritos on two separate occasions. Overstuffed, oozing with flavor, and filling. The atmosphere is casual and loud. The service is efficient and fun.

Pretty good food though not my favourite Mexican joint in town. The servers and cooks are always great though.

Juan's Flying Burrito blows all other New Orleans Mexican eateries out of the water and to the moon - hands down! The atmosphere is fun, edgy, and youthful. While still maintaining (somewhat) of a Mexican flare, Juan's decor is dark and artsy, representing a cool hangout for college kids, young adults, etc. Definitely appropriate for all ages, but safely targeting the youthful, partying market. The menu is great, overall. It seems that there is something for everyone: tacos, salads, dips, etc. My personal favorite: the quesadillas. The red chili, chicken, and goat cheese quesadilla is perfection folded into a flour tortilla. Savory chicken, pungent goat cheese, and sweetness of the chilis marry together perfectly. Another great quesadilla is the Bacon Azul, featuring (you guessed it) bacon! The kicker: it's smothered in gooey bleu cheese. (Mind you, I am a sucker for bleu cheese; bacon I could live without.) The salty combo was perfect for a bleu cheese loving carnivore. Overall, Juan's is definitely a place that I will continue to take family and friends to visit. Weighing in at around $10 per person, without margaritas (obviously), it's cheap and better quality than one of its main competitors, Superior Grille. Absolutely where I will be drinking next Cinco De Mayo.

After joining yelp I had so many options for lunch but I couldn't help stick to Juan's for a very chill atmosphere and great food. Their salsa is always great along with their signature flying burrito. My boyfriend and I also tried the pork and slaw tacos for the first time today and it was very flavorful. Warning : the flying burrito may put you in a food coma so a stroll down magazine after wouldn't hurt :)

The food was good but I don't care about how the good the food was cause all the staff in there are rude as hell, from our waitress to the bartenders. I will never step foot in there again neither will the other twelve of us that where there Friday night for a friends birthday dinner!

My friend was craving Mexican food after just moving from Los Angeles to New Orleans and so we found this place on yelp and decided to check it out since it literally seemed to be the only place in NOLA with Mexican food. The food was Mexican-y enough with little hints of Creole, which made for a good combination. We first ordered the chips with cheese/guac/salsa. This I would definitely recommend! I ended up getting the Flying Burrito (I mean this place IS called Juan's Flying Burrito) which had shrimp, steak, and chicken and that left me very satisfied and so full! This place doesn't get 5 stars because although our server was very nice, we did at one point think we had been forgotten because it took a while for our server to greet us at our table, also when ordering our drinks, she would put them in the middle of the table, and so our party had to constantly guess what drink was what and who it belonged to. Overall, this is a good place to get your Mexican food fix if you're ever in the NOLA area. It has a fun unique atmosphere and has an interesting music playlist (We swear they were playing country one second then hard rock the next) haha! They also sell some pretty interesting flavored popsicles as well, didn't try that out because we were way too full!

LOOOVE this place. I get the flying burrito and the flying enchiladas. Also the luau quesadilla is great. My wife loves the Mardi Gras Indians Tacos but I don't care for those. The only food item I would not recommend is the western burrito unless you like your food really really spicy! The mood of Juan's is very casual and it can be rather loud. The service has always been prompt. Overall I would recommend this place repeatedly!

Definitely recommend the frozen berry lemon margarita, it was delicious and just the right amount of alcohol. Same goes for the chips and guac - the guac was just the right amounts of salsa and salt. Flying burrito was solid, but personally would have preferred less sour cream and more guac.

Frozen sangria? Are you kidding me? I've never had attitude problems with any of the staff here but who the heck cares because they serve frozen white sangria. In addition to this creative drink, their burritos are delicious. This is definitely my new place (sorry, I still love your horchata, Felipe's) and you shouldn't let whatever attitude problems you've read about sway you from trying it. Bottom line is, if you like good food and fun drinks then you should eat here!

In a single, one-week trip to NOLA, I made it to Juan's twice. Did I mention I was staying in the French Quarter?? The first visit was at literally 9:45 on a Tuesday. There were two other tables in the house, and they must have liked the looks of us, as they brought along menus and a delicious jug'o'margaritas at 15 minutes to close. Perhaps it helped that we batted eyelashes and promised to be a well-tipping group of 5. Our second visit was a mid-afternoon lunch in the garden district while walking about. Neither begging nor pleading required this time. The atmosphere is open and brightly coloured. The place bigger than seems! We got our food rather quickly both times, and our lunch visit was during a packed house. Service is fast and honest, but not necessarily super friendly. My first meal, the Carne Asada tacos, were good, but not to-die-for. My friend's pork'n'slaw tacos, however, were amazing; she didn't waiver to another dish on our lunch visit! The luau quesadillia was an unexpected delight - who'd have thought shrimp, applewood smoked bacon, and pineapple salsa would make an amazing dish (...did that just come out of my mouth?!?!). Second round, I had to try a burrito. The Super Green was running down my alley, as I was in need of some veggie goodness. I kid you not: every photo of me from that lunch is with that burrito in hand. It was awesome! The Good - Some food is amazing; a packed house of local folks doesn't lie. - The place is "cool"; laid back and just here to give you food. Really, what more do you want in a restaurant?? - Margaritas were amazing, as were the mojitos. - There is a little bakery stand near the cash register... I didn't try anything, but just knowing it's there makes me a happy girl. The Not-So-Good - Some food is not life changing. It's by no means "bad", just... good. - The hours were a little disappointing. Maybe we were just used to French Quarter timing by then, but closing at ten or 11 seems so early!

Steak shrimp chicken burrito was freaking awesome. Each by them self were great but combined into a flying burrito freaking awesome. Started my night here for a bachelor party, we had about 13 people so we sat in the back, pretty cool was mostly private the entire time we were there. The service people were cool and funny. We got our food pretty quick when we could shut up for a min to give our order. I didn't have any of there mixed drinks but many of my friends did and seemed to really enjoy them over and over and over. I can't wait to go back and try other items off the menu.

Great. Great. Great. It's is great at what it seeks to be and prices are very fair. Nachos were fresh and all of those whom I went with (5) were very happy with what they ordered. Waitress wasn't the best and seemed to not like her job very much but she got us everything in a timely manner so she did do her job.

Love the burritos at Juan's Flying Burrito. I also like the chips with "queso" (melted cheese). There is only street parking, therefore I usually try to arrive before lunch rush hour or before the dinner rush.

I dropped into Juan's for a quick bite to eat while in the neighborhood. I would certainly come back if I were in the mood for tex-mex and within a reasonable distance. I was seated rather quickly and my host was the perfect mix of not-too-friendly and attentive. My waitress arrived to take my order immediately. I ordered a jerk chicken burrito (which, I grant, sounds strange) that turned out to taste exactly as it sounds. The jerk was fine and the construction of the burrito was satisfactory. Upon finishing my meal, I felt satiated -- I received a sufficient amount of burrito. The chicken was a bit dry, and the beans were a bit over-done, but whatever. It's a fucking burrito. I may have been biased into giving this place a better review than it deserves, as I now live in the northeast (where there is no acceptable mexican food to speak of) but I feel that it is pretty okay. Also, they have cheap beer there: I noticed PBRs on the menu, for $3.

I had a great experience last time I was here. Our waitress was super nice and helpful, and definitely on top of her game. The margarita, although it was $8, was tasty and sufficiently boozy. My supergreen burrito was flavorful and crunchy and fresh, although I *did* request no cheese and they gave me some by accident. It was yummy, but I was trying to be marginally healthy. The only thing that sucks about this place is that they charge for chips, but they present this fact in kind of a shady way. My friends ate their nachos in record time and my other friend downed her whole, gigantic burrito. I love this place for the great prices, but would maybe get take out next time.

This was our first food stop when visiting Nola. Great vegetarian options. Highly recommend the super green burrito - very flavorful with a unique spinach flavor. Parking on a Saturday night was free and a breeze on magazine street.

This is a mixed review. The good being the decor, location and food. The vego taco was great and the prices were fair for what we ordered. The bad was the service, it may just be a waitress on a "I hate my job day" but when a young surly blonde girl is practically dropping your meals on the table and rolling her eyes when you order it doesn't make for a great visit. So I would go again for the food but if I was seated in her section I would probably leave.

I get it now. I've jumped on the Juan's fan train and I don't see a stop anytime soon. When people would say, "Let's get dinner after work. Juan's?" I was frustrated because I didn't want to accept the fact that New Orleans' take on Mexican wasn't what I was used to. After having gone back multiple times, I can now admit and take pride in the fact that I love this creole-Mexi relationship that my burrito represents. With diverse takes on vegan burritos, tacos, and other treats, you can't leave here feeling hungry or dissatisfied! Ole!

Four stars for the drinks and three for the food. The Magazine location is where I usually end up going as it is close to my house (and Sunday they usually have happy hour all day and I like to get my double margarita for the price of a single). I need to disclose that I'm not really a big fan of Mexican (and I got really REALLY burned out on Mexican food and anything wrapped in a tortilla while I was exiled to Austin for a year and half due to Katrina). They often play headbanger music (sometimes WAY too loud) so that is a bit of a strange combo of Mexican food meets goth death metal. This can be a great place to eat by yourself and grab a quick bite to eat or go with others and hang out for awhile. I usually get either the tacos or enchiladas here as it is a quick and relatively cheap meal (they usually bring you the green and red sauce but you have to REQUEST the yellow habanero sauce). They have a good rotation of different specials (as much variety as can be expected within the limited repertoire of everything has to involve a tortilla in someway Tex-Mex food). It does get very crowded sometimes and there can be a wait. The bar usually turns over pretty quick but some days people just linger for awhile. They have some very well decorated people working here (and by decorated I mean seriously tattooed up) so it can be entertaining just to watch the staff in action and they do usually provide really good service (the Mid-City location is famous for bad service and that is why I rarely go there). They make some of the best margarita's in New Orleans and have some good cold beer so a great place to drink and decent place to eat.

$5 margaritas (in a pint glass)? $3 micheladas? An outdoor courtyard? What's not to like? They also have some add-ons that were kind of cool, like tangerine-infused Tequila for $1... Having lived in California, I'll have to go back a few more times before judging the food!

  • Jen L.

It was worth the trek out here to get a burrito! Even though it's a tourist trap, the burritos are very large and very good made with the freshest ingredients. This is not a large establishment, so not ideal for a large group. You might have quite a wait and if I remember correctly, the don't usually do reservations. If you are into interesting light fixtures while you dine, this is the place for you. I often wondered if any of them are for sale, they could probably make a killing in selling art as well as burritos.

You could cram a lot of taco-lovers in this place. There are some picnic tables out front, a kind of diner-y bar area when you walk in which opens up into more of a restaurant at the rear of the building. Excellent tacos. Great funky atmosphere. Definitely on my list of top Mexican joints, and being that I live in LA (the LA of the west, that is), I think that really says something. The beans, rice, and chips was a great start. The Mardi Gras Indians tacos were superb (roasted corn, pinto beans, grilled squash, spicy slaw). The Soy Chorizo tacos didn't quite measure up but were quite tasty. It was hard to choose what exactly to order because most everything sounded awesome. We left stuffed and our wallets weren't hurting too badly. Success!

I'm a bit of a type A, hands on, clearly outlined with color coded highlights list of places to see kind of traveler - somewhat unabashedly so. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is more freestyle Fridays with our travel plans. Kudos to him on being more than obliging with my OCD and going by most of my suggestions, though the venues mostly proved to be lackluster. So it was that on the second day and our nth meal (a lot of eating in the Nouveau O) that I, the type A, gave into a whim, and sat down to a taqueria during a freestyle walk along Magazine Street based on no more than the words: watermelon sangria. I love watermelon and I love sangria, and I'm thinking watermelon in sangria must be perfect. It wasn't. It was more Jolly Rancher Artificially flavored hard candy than nature's gift for summertime fruit lovers. My date, however, hates real watermelon and loves watermelon "flavor". Fine, it's like inadvertent revenge on my impositions courtesy of a third party. FINE. I ordered a crawfish dip, because I didn't want to subject him to an hour of me sucking out the insides of mini lobsters as he shuffles through a plate of less than stellar meat dish. Compromise, people, I am so adult. It was a bowl of mysteriously cheesy bowl heavily laced with chunks of crawfish tail, saving me the hard work and allowing me to indulge in maximum gluttony as all I needed to do was dip and eat. Dip and eat, do it to the beat. He had steak tacos which were pretty standard, I can't speak on it much, but the tortilla shells were grilled, which I thought was interesting and not common to all taquerias. Nice touch, Juan. Awkward waitressing: every 15 minutes, she came and said, I'm just checking on you guys. Ok, captain obvious, need a new line?

in 2005 i lived a few blocks from juan's. we (the woman who inexplicably loves me and her then-10-year-old daughter) visited often. i have fond memories of those days, the three of us sitting at the bar, eating unique things wrapped in tortillas, and feeling blessed. years have passed. katrina took me away for a while and even upon my return, i never made it back to juan's. then i did. two days in a row. last week. sitting at the bar, eating a burrito, drinking cheap beer, meeting people, and feeling blessed once again. joe and matt behind the bar are hard working cats who prefer a slower bar-like atmosphere but stay at juan's because it's a great gig. they're attentive to everybody and when time allows, take time to talk and share. i made my own burro the first time. awesome. had the veggie punk the second time. just as i remembered and actually, since my last visit pre-k, nothing has changed except there are juan's-branded t-shirts on the wall and a large hdtv above the waitress station. the clientele is mostly local, artistic, and happy. eating good grub and enjoying $1 hipster beers (pbr), it quickly became apparent to me how juan's connects with its community: good food, good service, and a comfortable atmosphere. i've missed you guys. thanks for having me.

My husband and I were visiting NOLA for vacation and saw this place and decided to stop for lunch. So glad we did. I had the Luau quesadilla...so good. I am like...89% sure everyone who waits tables here is stoned most of the time. And really, that's okay. The service can get weird sometimes, but I never feel too weird being here. I recognize all the trappings of crust punks and bike punks, despite the gutter punk decor. (Hot tip: gutter punks don't like having jobs. It gets in the way of harassing tourists on Frenchmen St.) Then again, this is probably not the place to bring your sweet church-going mother unless she's okay with a server who has been around the block a few times...on a fixie. (Hot tip: hipsters aren't the only ones with fixies.) I should probably talk about the food and not just the servers, amirite? Okay. There is a lot of food. I know this sounds simple and stupid, but bear with me. The food comes in large quantities. Larger than average. Larger than New Orleans typically spews forth. So get your tum ready or take a box home. (I double-fisted a burrito one night, and I still brought some home for later.) And there are vegetarian options. Like, real ones. Granted, they read like a stoner dreamt them up in a haze of really good purple kush (that's a type of pot, right?); but darn if they aren't tasty. I recommend the Mardi Gras Indians if you're feeling tacos. Here is your super-pro tip about hot sauce: There are multiple bottles of spicy liquid available for your consumption. If you think you have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the big boys (and girls) of hot sauce, ask your server for the really spicy one. They'll usually say, "Oh, I brought you the hot sauce." That's when you look at them calmly and request, again, the REALLY spicy one. This will usually get you what you want. Also, for the confused: this is a Creole Taquería. That means it's not any real sort of food; this place is a mash-up. A good one. If I were about to make a musical comparison, I might compare Juan's to the Grey Album by DJ Danger Mouse: smooth, splendid, not to everyone's taste. Sometimes, you just need the classics. (Oh god, this review reads like I'm stoned.) Accessibility notes: Half of the restaurant is accessible for mobility devices. The men's restroom is not accessible because it is up a step. Ditto for the bar. No braille signage or menus. Can get super loud at peak hours. Most of the booths are narrow and difficult to get into.

Juan's is the great spot with all the right amount of Portland / Williamsburg / Richmond / Austin feel to it. Lots of sleeves to be seen. More rolled, snug-fitting, awkwardly-long denim shorts than you'll know what to do with. Toms... Toms everywhere. Anyways - fun place, good music playing, cheap beer and my god the burritos. Seriously, some of the best I've had anywhere. I don't know what they put in them (Tyrone Biggums has a theory), but it's just so damn good. My buddy and I ate and drank there for under $35... total. Wow.

I love a good burrito, and Juan's has it. I've eaten here only once so far, but I enjoyed my experience and I will come back. Good drink specials (they'll give you a double house margarita for the price of a single). The margaritas are on the rocks, and actually really good. Don't go drinking two and expect to drive though :) My girlfriend ordered the cucumber margarita. It was quite tasty (sip it from the rim, the straw will suck up the pulpiness from the bottom of the glass). We shared the Kamehameha Nachos. Holy balls. This could (and should) have been our whole meal. Deliciously smoked pork on top of fresh made chips. Throw in grilled mango , pineapple salsa, real cheese, jalapenos, bacon!!, chipotle sour cream, and cilantro...wow. This is not real Mexican food, but it was freaking delicious. It's huge too: enough for 4 people to share as an appetizer. I ordered the Western Burrito with Steak, and she ordered fish tacos. My burrito was good, but the meal definitely peaked with the nachos. The burrito was big and had tastiness inside. Next time I'll order it without sour cream as I felt it took away from the flavor of the meat. The steak had great flavor and texture, it just didn't need the sour cream. The fish tacos were good too. Tartar sauce is not the right topping for this dish; thankfully they provide it on the side (IMO, don't bother). The fish was grilled perfectly. She thought the cheese was unnecessary, so you be the judge on that. Fresh veggies round out the dish. A good choice if you want something lighter, but she'll be trying a burrito next time. Before I came here I feared, and I have come to accept that New Orleans views salsa as a bottle of Crystal hot sauce. Juan's breaks this trend in the best way. They offer three types of salsa depending on your tastes. I loved...LOVED...the habanero salsa. It's too spicy for most people, but it has a great sweet/spicy flavor. The tomatillo based green salsa was a delicious, and milder, treat. The sad step child was the standard red salsa which was definitely good, but it couldn't stack up to the other two. You should come here and order a margarita and nachos. If you're really hungry get a burrito too. Whatever you order, put salsa all over it and ask for some extra napkins.

I'm from California and have been living in New Orleans for 5 months CRAVING good Mexican food. Totally got my fix today. The El Pastor burrito with pulled pork, brown rice and pineapple salsa, it was AWESOME. It's not Authentic Mexican so go with an open mind and expect the fusion. The atmosphere there was also great along with friendly, helpful servers. I will most definitely be going back. :)

This is a great little New Orleans style neighborhood Mexican spot. It was one of the first places I sought out when moving from a different state, 6 years ago, and it hasn't changed much! Delicious fresh food at a great price! Tasty mojito's & I want to try their Popsicles this summer! I love love having this place in walking distance!! I'm a regular.. My favorites are the pulled pork tacos!

Good tacos. The Pork 'n' Slaw on corn tortillas are worth visiting for. They don't mess around with their hot sauces, which all pack a serious punch. The tacos were seasoned really well with a good amount of heat. Not good Margaritas. Not sure what was off with the margaritas. Actually yes I am. They tasted like watered down tequila and lime juice. No bueno. Have no fear, though. Opt instead for their pretty damn good michelada, a balanced combination of Tecate, tomato juice and spices. Definitely come here, just don't get too excited for a margarita.

We ate here on a Saturday after a Scavenger Hunt Race. We were starving! We ordered the Ground Beed Nacho's and Queso for Apps. They were both delicious. Good eating for all. The kids menu is reasonable. Food was well worth it. Flying burrito is over a pound, so take note. Nachos were the best. Who knew pineapples would be good on nachos? Friendly wait staff, my girls really enjoyed it, ages 18, 7, and 3.

I have eaten here at least 10 times in the last year and I love it every time. I highly recommend this place and hope everyone try's it while they are in the area. They take standard mexican dishes and put a nice Nola twist on them.

Crawfish queso dip is pretty yummy! I have been twice while visiting New Orleans and have had the flying burrito both times. It is a pretty good burrito but could use more meat. It comes with chicken, steak, and shrimp. Last night I think my burrito had 4 shrimp. Over all, a great place to grab something to eat ... don't expect anything fancy but a good meal.

The service is becoming atrocious. I seriously come here less and less because I don't want to deal with crabby waitresses giving me super attitude. Last time I was here the waitress walked away in the middle of us asking a question/ordering. It may not be worth it to eat here if you're going to be treated like crap.

I harbor a soft spot for Juan's on Magazine :) My first visit way back in 2008 with my AmeriCorps team is a memory I cherish and each time I returned to NOLA, Juan's has always been a must-visit-again restaurant. Now that I live here, it's my fave go-to spot for never-ending pitchers of margarita and a keep-em-comin' attitude regarding chips and queso while catching up with old friends. The atmosphere is so welcoming and homey with all the DIY art projects everywhere (Even the lighting fixtures are recycled coffee tins and plastic bottles), and for a crafting-junkie I have drawn a lot of inspiration from their interior. Although it's always busy, I have never had anything but great service and although the prices look a bit scary, the portions are HUGE! Nomnomnom and cheers Juan's... I'll see you soon.

I've been going to Juan's for a long time. It is my favorite Mexican style restaurant I have ever visited. I love Mexican, so I have been to a lot of restaurants. I like this place so much, I bought one of their hats. I really have never had a bad experience with their food. Everything I have tried on the menu is spot on. I really can't think of anything I would recommend staying away from. Service is usually great, though I have had an issue with one of the waitresses before. She no longer works there, I wonder why. The atmosphere is hipster/gutter punk, though I have seen people in suits in there. There is art on the walls from local artists. There is usually rock music playing. It can get a little loud at times. I recommend this location over the Carrollton one, it seems better for some reason.

Delicious, fresh Mexican fare and great drinks. If the crowded interior is packed, there's an option to sit out back at picnic tables... Some of the wait staff leave something to be desired, but overall a good experience.

You know what's great about America? Food specialties of a particular region: Texas BBQ Brisket Carolina BBQ New Orleans Po' Boys New York pizza Chicago deep-dish pizza Cincinnati Chili San Diego fish tacos The list is endless. And, what happens when someone tries to emulate that special thing elsewhere? It ain't the same. That's the gist of Juan's and all them-there flyin' burritos. The California-inspired taqueria lack all the things that make them special...when you're in California. Otherwise, it's just an unremarkable place that offers bland, overpriced Mexican food.

Recently visited Juan's with some friends on a Saturday. I expected seating to be beyond difficult, but we actually walked in and grabbed us a seat very easy. The waitress was fact and definitely helpful to my group. The atmosphere was laid back only problem, when its crowded the closeness of the tables can be a little annoying with people coming in and out. The food was great, never have bad experience with food here. I had the chicken quesadillas, my friends had the bean soul and mother of all burgers (which didn't seem the hardcore to me). I must say the queso and chips are addictive. Parking: On the weekend will be hardcore, better off trying to park two blocks down closer to Rum House.

Do order drinks, seasonal cocktails delicious Don't order enchiladas, uber dry tortillas lightly sauced & no flavor. It was legit horrific. Do order chips, tacos, burritos, quesadillas. Not authentic but tasty. Do tip your waitress.

This is my favorite Juan's location. Why? Great music, outdoor patio, no children. Staff is friendly and efficient. AND they will make me vegan tacos.

Juan's, I love your chips when they're still warm, and I love your salsa which is fresh and delicious with a little bite to it. But if I ever eat anything besides that at your place again, next time I'll take the Mardi Gras Indians without the side of medium length, wiry black hair you added free of charge to my to-go order. It left a bad taste in my mouth. And I had dental floss in my purse already.

I met my girlfriends here for some margaritas, chips, and smack-talking. (I actually had a Michelada, which was OKAY, but my friends seemed to enjoy their 'ritas. The rest of the story holds true.) The best part for me was the chips and dips and the ambiance. The salsa and guacamole here are AWESOME and the place itself really just makes me happy with its punky-metal-eco friendly-warehouse vibe. Plus, there are skulls. Anywhere with skulls is the place for me.

While I normally like Juan's, I had a pretty disappointing experience with the waitress tonight. After waiting for about 40 minutes for a table to open up, things started off well but then we had a 20 minute gap from putting in appetizers and ordering our meal. When the meal came, we asked for more water and chips but did not get any of this until we finished our food and only because we got the bus boy involved. Finally, we were planning to pay with credit card but got so feed up of waiting again that we ended up paying with cash. Total time there was 2 hours...way too long given we needed to get some other things done tonight.

Warning: if you think all people with tattoos are either felons or delinquents, this is not the place for you. I bet they don't hire anyone who doesn't have at least one big visible tattoo. Juan's has become the default place for my small family get-togethers; everyone likes at least one item here, whether it be their fish tacos or their bigass burritos (Seriously, they're probably registered weapons in some areas).

We look forward to visiting Juan's everytime we travel to New Orleans. We stumbled upon it about 4 or 5 years ago and have been coming back during our annual visits ever since. As much as I like to explore new things, I get the redfish tacos every time. They are phenomenal! Our most recent visit was after I a few of us ran the Jazz Half Marathon and we were with a group and we were HUNGRY. Everyone loved what they ordered and we shared the meatless con queso, guacamole and bean dip to start and all 3 were awesome! Juan's is just the right mix of Mexican, Cajun and grunge. Can't wait for my next visit...and my redfish tacos.

Stopped in on a hot humid day and was quickly seated. The decor is nice and relaxing with Mexican themed oil paintings on the wall. The guacamole was fresh and spiced perfectly with just a hint of smokey heat to cut through the richness and it came with crisp fresh tortilla chips. The size was perfect for two to enjoy with a good selection of beers (Mexican, Domestic and local). The waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The service was quick as well. All told we had a nice midday snack and a couple of beers (my wife had a Negra Modelo and I had a New Belgium Fat Tire) for $12. We will definitely come back if we're on Magazine Street again.

I have had my most unpleasant 'mexican inspired' food i have had in NOLA. I have visited a few times and I have always been disappointed. My boyfriend ordered a quesadilla, half of which should have had bacon. He did not have any bacon and it was so greasy that the whole plate was covered in it. I have been underwhelmed by their chicken and carnitas burritos. I usually love pineapple salsa but this one is regrettably made with canned pineapples. Their salsas are also served too cold. I will not be returning.

We all really liked the food, delicious, fresh and well prepared. Seriously yummy. Only thing was the service was a little bit average, we were waiting for quite awhile out the back for a table... Yet there 4 tables all free, just needing to be cleared. Granted it was busy, but it just seems that everyone was a little bit disorganized. I had to physically go up to the waiters and ask if they could clear one if the four tables, so we could start ordering. A special mention to blonde waitress, huffing and puffing about, rudely barging through customers. A simple behind or excuse me, rather then being unescessarily loud and aggressive.

Every time I end up in NOLA, I hit up Juan's Flying Burrito. I'm from Los Angeles and Mexican food is abundant in my city; so you would typically expect someone like me to venture away from it while on vacation but IT'S THAT DAMN GOOD you just have to try it. I usually order a Juan's Flying Burrito and get it wet. So huge and filling, enough to feed 2 people. It has a great flavor, it's not bland at all. Their drinks are delicious and so are the homemade paletas (ice cream bars). You must try one of them. The quality of service is also good. Attentive staff and the wait time is minimal. So why 4 stars and not 5, well again I'm from LA and I'm use to getting my quality Mexican food for dirt cheap in my city. So based off comparison it's a 4, but stand alone they deserve a 5.

Margaritas are amazing!!! Small but good! The food is good also!!!! But comes in big proportions!!!! Def. sharing a plate next time! Salsa is so good!! Queso isn't that good. And the location is a little small. On street parking and maybe about 10 tables. But it's a good hole in the wall restaraunt.

If Mexican food is your comfort food, this is your place. I've been here a few times, and gotten food to go too. The food that they provide is a good satisfying meal. I'm just not in love with it. I don't crave going here. Strangely, when I do bite into my food, it hits the spot that I didn't even know that I had. I've never been disappointed with with anything I've ever had, and the food and drinks do come out promptly. btw, when you do get take out from here, you're going to be just as happy elsewhere as you are in the restaurant eating it.

This Juan in wayyyy better than the other Juan. Ha ha get it? But seriously the flying burrito--amazing. The queso dip has the potential to change your life. western burrito and nachos are also both excellent choices. Love the atmosphere and it also doesn't take a tremendous amount of time to get your food. Overall just an excellent experience.

Love this place!!!! The only thing I can complain about is that their menue is always changing so if you like something it wont be there in 6 months. I ordered a sushi burrito and watermelon sangria about a year and a half ago, fell in love. Now, sadly, they don't have it. The food is always outstanding though, no matter what you order.

Not bad for tex-mex cuisine at cheap prices and of course LARGE portions. I came here a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and it was still crowded at 8:30-9 at night, but we didn't have to wait too long. Once seated we ordered and the food came out really quickly. I ordered the Kamehameha Nachos, which was huge! Yet somehow I still managed to finish it. Teehee. My boyfriend got a regular burrito, which he too seemed to enjoy. For dessert we got the wedding cake and white chocolate raspberry cupcakes- I'd much rather the wedding cake one! Being a cupcake fanatic, I was pretty impressed by the cupcakes. They aren't the best cupcakes I've had, but coming from a place that doesn't specialize in desserts, I was pleasantly surprised. So the only problem with the place? The food just didn't seem to wow me. Yes it was good, but also forgettable.

I just want to say that I love you guys! I appreciate that in the five years I've lived in this city, where good food deals are getting scarcer and scarcer, you guys have remained constant--always great food and when the check comes, we are always pleasantly surprised. That is greatly appreciated by my family and friends, and keeps us coming again and again.

THE WESTERN is to my palate the perfectly flavorful Tex-Mex burrito! EVERYBODY in town goes to Juan's, and this is one very diverse city; ARCHITECTURALLY amazing block that Juan's helped bring back from seediness. I lived in the 1800 block of Magazine in the mid 1980's when the abutting St Thomas Housing Projects were the vanguard for violent murders and crime in this city (in fact in 1988 NOLA was averaging a murder a day). Café Roma was the first restaurant to bravely wade into that part of the LGD. About a decade later, Juan's led the revitalization of the 2000 block. The street's architecture is singularly individual and almost creepy. You can easily see why the quirky Coen brothers filmed part of "Miller's Crossing" here in 1989. Juan's has it all: great food, margaritas, and fair prices. So now instead of going to IHOP as I did when I was a kid, Juan's is my favorite place to go as an adult to treat myself after a trip to the the dentist, blood work or a physical.

Hipster burrito joint force for good with free refill on chips and housemade guac! Wife had spicy slaw veggie tacos. I had the three meat flying burrito. The only thing that they need is horchata! Then this place would be worth five hundred million stars.

I haven't written a review for this place yet? Oops! What can I say about Juan's? It's cheap, most items being between $7-$9 for a meal. It's pretty consistent as far as food quality and quantity. There is a decent menu selection with everything from Bacon-bean dip with chips ($3.95), to Quesedillas ($6-9), burritos ($6.50-$8.50), salads ($5-$9), tacos ($6-$10) and nachos ($5-$9). I have had the above mentioned bean dip and it's simple, delicious and it is a big bowl-especially for $3.95. I have also had burritos-my favorite being the Jerk Chicken which is a little sweet and a little spicy. My partner often gets a Quesadilla, and I think it has shrimp, cheese and pineapple in it? He likes it and I had a bite and it was full of flavor. I've also had the nachos and they are also large and decent. I was a little disappointed with the enchiladas I had one time. I think they were bean and cheese and they were just sort of blah and could have used a little side of rice to break the dull taste. Margaritas are delicious. The place is cute and bustling inside and it always seems busy. All in all, I'd recommend this place for a casual, inexpensive dinner- though it doesn't hold a candle to the Rum house, but it's a bit of a different type of place with a slightly more casual vibe.

This is one of those places that is perfect for a quick, yummy dinner. One of the favorites from here is the Sweet and Green with Chicken. A unique taste on a quesadilla. Sweet potatoes, green chiles and onions, the green chiles give it a unique taste. Even if you aren't a big fan of sweet potatoes you should def try it. I used to get the fish tacos and while they are really really good, i have a new favorite. The Pork and Slaw tacos...slow cooked pork with a crunchy creamy red cabbage spicy slaw...yea, money. My friend ordered the enchiladas, and while she loved them I'm not a huge fan of enchiladas so not my fave but personal preference not really anything against the chef. Buen Provecho!

Consistently great, cheap and fresh. Try the juaha rolls, the pork and slaw tacos, the badass bean dip, the chicken and goat cheese quesadilla or anything else! It's all great and cheap. Also good selection for vegetarians.

Had the black and gold burrito lunch special and added shrimp for a small fee of $2.75. It was fucking delicious! I washed it down with red sangria that contains pomegranate and blueberry, wow! My friend had a a margarita and it was strong these bar tenders know how to keep you happy! The chips with guacamole and salsa were fresh and also fucking delicious. Coming from a latina this Mexican food was da shit!

Juan's offers great food at very reasonable prices. I have been to Juan's several times, but my last trip was by far the best. A buddy and I were looking for a lunch place and decided to go to Juan's at the last minute. Even though it was prime lunch time (12:00), the restaurant was busy, but not packed. We were promptly seated and our server immediately arrived to take our drink orders. This level of service continued throughout our meal. Our server was attentive, but not overbearing. On this trip I ordered the western burrito with steak. Imagine fajitas wrapped into a large burrito and you get the picture of what this entailed. It was wonderful. the steak, onions, peppers and cheese all combined to make a juicy and filling burrito. Fellow Yelper Shannon S.'s suggested I ask for the habanero hot sauce when ordering. i did, and I am glad. The sauce was hot, but flavorful. It really made the burrito even better. In fact, this may have been the best burrito I have had in the city so far. I really enjoy Juan's. If you're in the Garden District and looking for reasonable, good food, give Juan's a try.

I'm currently pregnant and all I crave are burritos. With that being said I always get the Flying burrito, and I can take a hit or miss day; but this particular day was a total miss. The steak in my burrito was pretty much raw. I was so disappointed. On top of that it lacked its usual spice and flavor. Had I not lived on the Westbank I would've taken it back. For a pregnant chick this was a tragic mishap. Get back on your A-game Juan's!!

I cannot believe I've been coming here almost weekly (ok, honestly, many times twice a week) and haven't written a review yet. Shameful. This place is amazing, and I crave it when I've been gone from New Orleans for more than a week. Pork and slaw tacos?! A must get. Chorizo queso.. if you're feeling it (which I am frequently). All the burritos are amazing. Once they even let me put the slaw from the pork and slaw tacos on their fish tacos.. way too good (but it's not their standard). My steady is the reg chicken burrito.. and add that red sauce they give you.. it's just the right amount of kick. And my friends who are vegan/gluten free have always been able to eat with no problem and they've been great about switching the meal up for their needs. I haven't had anything on the menu I haven't loved. The staff is also great. They have pretty good specials to mix it up, and strong margs (which is really all you need, really). They're quick too -- placing a to-go order has it ready in 10-15. Bike rack out front. It's all just perfect. My friends know I'm obsessed.. but it's all for good reason.

It's rare that a San Diego boy stumbles across decent Mexican food outside the 619, so when a burrito shop manages to stand out in a place better known for gumbo and jumbo and deep fried butter, one takes notice. Juan's Flying Burrito is that place. I enjoyed a hearty veggie burrito that could hold it's own against any of my favorite taco shops back home. It was big and healthy and tasty and was complemented quite well by an ice cold Michelada (Tecate over ice mixed with a shot of Crystal hot sauce). The vegetables were crisp and the black beans and rice well portioned, neither overwhelming nor unsubstantial. The tortilla reflected attention to quality, not deference to whatever the local supermarket had on the shelf. Impressed, I was! Now Juan's just needs to expand their hot sauce offerings to include staples like Tapatio and Cholula and I'll always have a home away from home in New Orleans! Well done, amigos.

I did not like my lemonade, it was sweet & sour mix with some fresh lemon eeew! I only thought my food was just OK, very much like TexMex style. I LOVED THE QUESO DIP! I could not get enough of it. Seriously come here, eat the queso and be happy.

Let's get down to it. Juan's is one of the best in the city. Easily the best mex you are going to find. Superior and all the other spots serve tourist mex. This is closer to real Mexican food with Cajun elements. The fajitas are excellent, same with the quesadillas. The fish tacos are amazing also, the redfish ones had a nice kick. Easy going, friendly people. Nice service. We used to hit it twice a week. I miss it now that I have moved. Take a break from all the samey same creole food and hit Juan's!

YUMMO! That is what describes this fun restaurant. Our server was attentive and fast and the red fish tacos were out of this world good! Spicy and fresh, could you ask for more? I know a lot of people really love this place, but I've had better burritos and better tex-mex. I got the green supreme vegetarian burrito and the wife had nachos. The ground beef for the nachos was greasy and sort of bland. The salsa was good if you order it. My burrito was flavorful with a lot of broccoli.

This restaraunt was absolutely amazing. Started off with chips and Queso and their Queso was just right. Service was great. Servers were very attentive and friendly. I had the flying quesadilla and it was truly amazing chicken, shrimp and steak stuffed quesadillas doesn't get much better than that.

Good old trusty Juan's. I've lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and cannot count how many times I've been there and enjoyed prompt service, great food, and their nice prices. I'm giving it 5 stars because it knows exactly what it is and owns it consistently.

My favorite restaurant in all of Nola. My boyfriend and I moved down here in January and we visit this place maybe once a week! My friends (who are from LA, MS, and AL) swear the burritos here are life changing. While the food here is good, it didn't change my life. I'm a CA native who's been eating flavor packed super burritos from the Mission district in San Francisco since I was a kid - my life has already been changed by magical burritos. That being said - Juan's is a great pit stop if you're strolling down Magazine. Some of the standouts include the jerk chicken (also a nacho plate), mojado, and the flying burrito. They've done a great job infusing Southern flavors into typical burrito, taco, and salad plates. In true NOLA form, their cocktail and liqour selection is top notch for a burrito joint - there's lots of tequilas to pick from when ordering margaritas. Lastly, there's a quiet covered patio area in the back on gravel with bench seating. It's pretty quiet and it's sure to please the smoker in your group. It's only a good idea in the cooler months and it's cozy since it doesn't seem like many people use it.

My girl was craving Mexican and there's only one place to go for me... Juan's! Not only is the food bang on, the service swinging, it's close to where I live. I love my world! It was a Saturday night the place was packed, of course, so there was a 10min wait but it's so worth it. We started with a pitcher of lemon strawberry margaritas. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered my fave "light" yum-yum, the Juaha roll with shrimp; see pic. It's Mexican sushi. Shrimp, cream cheese, salsa, lettuce all wrapped up in spinach tortilla. It's perfect for a light meal plus I usually can't finish it so there's a nice snack for me the next day. This location is tons better then the Carrollton local. It's much hipper. younger, not as family oriented.

Very, very good innovation on the traditional burrito Tex-Mex formula. Visited this restaurant on a road trip with my brother and cousin and although we were looking for more signature NOLA food, Juan's did not fail to impress. I've had a number of burritos throughout my life, but I'd count their jerk chicken as one of my favorites. Flavorful chicken and generally fresh ingredients abound. The tortilla was fairly large, but the burrito is by no means small--I saved half to eat later! We also had the chips and salsa (delicious, warm salsa and very salty but delicious chips) and Juaha rolls--interesting attempt to roll Mexican like sushi. Attempting bolder recipes with the tried-and-true burrito formula has its risks, but Juan's pull it off with ease. I'll be there again the next time I'm in NOLA.

I usually love love love Juan's on Carrolton. But today I went to the Magazine location - paid to park!, waited 20 minutes, sat for 20 minutes without any water or menus and 2 tables seated after us were helped. That's bad service and the waitress didn't seem to pay attention.

    (1)
  • Julie F.

The flying burrito and flying enchiladas ere both good. the side of beans and rice tasted like it had Cajun seasoning in it. The whole point of hitting Mexican was to get away from the 5 days of Cajun food. If you're in the mood for that.. Best of both worlds. I was not.

  • Houston H.

The staff is attentive, the chips are fresh and warm, the dip is very tasty. The queso is made in-house-it's fantastic! We ordered tacos and burritos, the downside-it took 28 minutes to get our order. But when the food hit the table-WOW! It was amazing and worth the wait. From the front to the back, the atmosphere is great, or drinks never were empty and for us, this is definitely a do again.

My fav place for Mexican. The cheese dip and guacamole are fantastic. There's nothing I have found that I didn't like well with the exception of their plain burritos. The margaritas are amazing!

  • Donovan F.

Definitely one of my first suggestions when friends stop by my place looking for a spot to eat in the neighborhood... Juan's has always been one to creatively mess with the formula of Mexican staple dishes, and for the most part, what ends up on the menu is pretty dang good. I guess I could imagine some imaginary purist of Mexican cuisine being less-than-thrilled, but no one wants to know that guy. (Apologies to 'that guy.') Cheap Tecate and margaritas are never an unwelcome thing, either.

A refreshing break from some of the more traditional New Orleans cuisine. This hits the special little Mexican spot in my belly that I cannot shake from growing up in California. Great prices for some TASTY Mexican. Fantastic stop while strolling Magazine. Great selection of tacos and drinks.

The burrito is short and fat, like my uncle Tito. hehe They use a humongous tortilla and stuff Zatarain's pre-cooked rice in the burrito with very dry meat and fake guacamole. What is going on people? I have been to Juan's probably 20 times, and this time I had an epiphany. My epiphany was that the food is way below average. They use really cheap ingredients and you can tell in every bite of there mostly tortilla burrito. I mean seriously, the tortilla they use for their burritos is the thickest and biggest tortilla I have ever experienced, and "I've had some really big ones silly." The kitchen staff are all drinking shots of liquor from the open kitchen, which is cute and all until I got a huge long hair in my burrito. The waitress came over to our table right after taking a huge bite of her taco, which we saw her do. She then came over with a mouth full of food and said, "may I taklhjhnc svoshvjh dcohc." "Excuse me I replied." She said, "sorry let me finish chewing." Ya think? This is no joke. Pretty epic stuff. I ripped Taqueria Corona bad for being, well, bad. Juan's is just a little bit better, but still not good. People that like it, probably go for the cheapish frozen margaritas, which I will only be getting to go from now on.

Jesus Christ, Juan's. The saga continues. Except, eff that. Tonight I went to Juan's in Mid-City. Service was delightful and prompt; the server was charming and lovely in every way possible. Everything was great! Until I got home, unwrapped the leftovers of my Supergreen burrito and bit into some m****f***cking chicken, randomly hanging out in the middle of this vegetarian burrito. Not Amused Vegetarian: Take 2 (In Which Our Heroine Is Still Not Amused) Now completely certain that something about Juan's, both locations, is just totally, completely screwed.

While 'burrito' is in its name, Juan's Flying Burrito (in the LGD) has some of the best tacos in NOLA. If you decide to head down there, wear whatever you like -- it's not dressy at all -- and you can get quick, delicious food and a great margarita with great prices. The pulled pork tacos, the chips with guac, cheese and salsa and a margarita are hard to beat, IMO. If you do fancy burritos, you won't be disappointed. The Al Pastor burrito may be the best on the menu if you are a carnivore. Vegetarians don't fret. They have you covered with plenty of veggie-oriented items. I haven't tried the vegetarian items, so I can't help you in the tastiness that lies within that portion of the menu. Nachos, I have tried -- repeatedly. Hawaii 5-0-4 nachos are irresistible if you want a spicy sweet entree. Don't get crazy and order everything I am loving, because you won't be able to finish all of it. The portions are a great size and you'll likely take some home -- with the exception of the taco plates. The plates come with three tacos. So if you are starving, order the chips and salsa with guac and cheese with the tacos. Otherwise, most other dishes will have you stuffed. You can search a lot of places in NOLA for great Tex-Mex food, but it's hard to beat Juan's. I held out going there for years. I'm sad I did, because now I'm addicted.

According to my amex account, I have been to Juan's 32 times since moving to New Orleans in June 2012. (less than a year ago) I think that says enough, but here are a few reasons I go so often: The simple menu is always prepared to order, with fresh ingredients and the kitchen is extremely consistent. Also, they will regularly have specials that are twists on traditional dishes that work well. (i.e. craw-fish enchiladas; chicken, bacon, ranch, queso fresco & spinach tacos) The other nice thing is my wife and I can eat for $20, (w/o drinks) which leaves room to enjoy some alcohol and not spend too much. Juan's has a good tequila list and a nice assortment of margaritas and other cocktails. Personally, I like the Low-rider Margarita and I appreciated being introduced to a traditional Mexican cocktail, the Michelada, (think beer w/ bloody mary mix). It's good, it's cheap, it works well for a quick bite, or weekend dinner with a group. And it's local. (I have only been to the location on Magazine)

Ordered The Luau quesadilla, which was delicious and affordable. Great, friendly service and casual, fun atmosphere. We also got some gourmet Popsicles which were amazing on a hot Louisiana day!

I ordered their awesome Pork 'N Slaw. It was GREAT!!! The atmosphere was perfect for our small group, and the staff was extremely helpful/prompt. Next time I'm in New Orleans, I will be back.

My parents brought me a kids bean and cheese burrito from this restaurant one afternoon when I wasn't feeling well. I'm telling you... I don't know what was so magical about this burrito but it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. The tortilla was so good and the balance of bean and cheese was spot on. It was sheer perfection. My dad's burrito was also very good, as was my mother's nachos. I can't speak to the service or the cleanliness of the establishment. It's the taste of the food that matters anyway and this place does it up right. Totally recommend.

Not a bad place to grab a quick/cheap bite to eat, but nothing special either. The waitstaff can be a bit surly, but they are always attentive.

It's not exactly traditional tex-mex but this joint hits the spot with an edgy atmosphere that will fill the appetite of the hungriest foodie. Typically the music is loud and you will get service from a sassy tattooed waiter that will get the job done. l always enjoy the drinks as well as many of the food items including the flying burrito as well as the chips & guacomole and a host of other dishes.

Fun, funky place in the Garden District. The food is really fresh and good. We went back twice while we were in town. We'll be going there the next time we're there.

Props for the cheap-a$$ prices on food and drinks. Props for the tasty margaritas, chips and salsa. Props for the cool staff who are pretty damn nice and are at the top of their game. Props for the guac. Juan's is a really fun place and no doubt I'll give it another go. Just wish my veg burrito had more flavor and more recognizable vegetables rather than muddy mush wrapped in a giant tortilla. An instance where I ate 1/4 of it, took home the leftovers and threw them out a week later. I'm bad with leftovers. Really bad, but I typically don't have any when eating a burrito, because I can't control myself around them. I go into a Mexican restaurant resigned to the inevitable burrito baby belly thing, but it didn't happen here for me.

Juan's Flying Burrito seems to be tasty if you make the rights choices. The first two times I had the namesake Flying Burrito-- steak, shrimp, and chicken with cheese, black beans, rice, salsa, sour cream and avocado. Despite containing three different kinds of meat, there were no noticeable chunks of meat in the burrito. The quantity of meat was lacking and so was the flavor. Overall, not bad, but also not particularly good. On my most recent visit I tried one of the specials-- chili lime pesto grilled shrimp tacos. Those were delicious and I highly reccommend ordering those if they are available. Speaking of the specials, you have to look around the restaurant and amongst the art on the walls the specials are written on chalkboards. My boyfriend had the wet burrito-- beans, rice, lettuce, and salsa covered in red enchilada sauce, cheese, sour cream, and jalapeños. He said it was pretty good, but the lettuce was rough. Don't know what that means? Me neither. The salsa is delicious and I definitely recommend starting with an order of chips and salsa. The order is pretty small though and definitely not enough for more than two people to share. Also didn't seem like it was "bottomless" aka we weren't offered more. Definitely some of the best salsa I've ever had though. There's also an extensive drink menu-- mexican, local, and domestic beers; house margaritas; signature margaritas; cocktails; mojitos; and non-alcoholic choices. When available, the Black & Gold Margarita is really good. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant is small and wait times can be long at peak times. Definitely a place worth trying for some tasty food and drink.

Excellent burritos and quesadillas. A few outdoor seats (can't say anything about the indoor seating as we didn't make it inside). Great choice for non-NOLA food if you're looking for something a bit different. Bring your dog(s) as the outdoor seating and the waiters are dog-friendly.

Props to Juan's for having vegan items on the menu! Came here on a vacation to NOLA, had some chips and salsa, couple of brews, and burritos. They were tasty, but mine seemed like it was lacking...something. I dunno, maybe cheese ;) Weirdly enough, the burrito was delicious cold on the drive back to TX the next day. Woo hoo! Oh, and my friend told me only hot chicks with tattoos work here. False, I saw none! But it does seem like a hip place, and popular with the college crowd.

This eatery was a great choice for food when passing through the area (Uptown / Lower Garden) as we ventured back toward the French Quarter. Juans pulls no punches when it comes to their food. We found that the cajun/creole influence added flavor and texture to the base mexican fare. I prefer to skip on drinks for a first visit so the true flavors are not masked. Our group started the dining experience with chips and salsa. Oddly, this was the one menu item we would have been glad to skip. Despite the priced menu item; which should have been FREE, we sampled two orders and found the chips to be too light and the salsa to be too off-the-shelf. Definitely pass on these until they decide to upgrade. No restaurant should be charging for anything but homemade chips and salsa, or nachos grande. The menu items were: flying burrito, al pastor burrito, jerk chicken burrito, cheese enchiladas, and pollo verde enchiladas. The food was served in ample portions and well prepared. The meats were moist and flavorful. The beans and rice were good; with everyone favoring the yellow rice. Noone in our group was disappoointed. If I had to change anything, I found the flying burrito to be light on the salsa, so add salsa and red sauce would have boosted the flavor of the surf & turf medley. Please do not come here and expect traditional "Mexican" food. Juans offers mexican food with a creole infusion. This is the "gulf coast", not the "southwest."

Delicious!!! After my friend and I checked into our hostel in NOLA, we asked for restaurant recommendations. We were surprised the first place our host recommended was a burrito place... Burritos are not at the top of my list for foods to eat in New Orleans. But it was really close to where we were staying, so we decided to try it. Then ended up coming back 3 or 4 more times during out 10-day stay. The prices are really fair and the veggie options are fantastic. I eat seafood but not other meat, and my friend is completely vegetarian. Classic New Orleans food is delicious, but it was really nice for me to get a break from the endless fried seafood and get some much-craved vegetables in me. And it was really nice for her to get a break from salad and the occasional veggie-burger. I got the Super Green burrito (with dairy) and added black beans. It was messy and delicious and healthy and satisfying. I could eat that burrito every day. Oh man, I want one right now. I tried the Sweet n Green quesadilla, which was delicious as well, but not as mind-blowingly so as the Super Green. They've also got bottles of Abita at a decent price. The servers were super friendly and recognized us before too long. I also thought the light fixtures were really cool, and I did my best not to take photos of them like some crazed tourist. The green tomatillo sauce was really good too - my friend was obsessed with it. They should have charged her for it because she likely went through an entire bottle.

The pork and slaw tacos were very good. They hit the spot! 4 stars bc I did take out and they forgot my drink. They have so many other good looking options on the menu. If I'm ever back in NOLA, hopefully!, I will stop by again to try some of there other items.

Some friends took me to Juan's while I was visiting in New Orleans because of their large, flexible, and accommodating nature towards vegetarians. I was excited to go because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp (I had bookmarked Juans before coming to New Orleans) and my review of their menu. When we arrived, the waitress boasted that they could make anything vegetarian (except, probably, the flying burrito, which is chicken, beef, and shrimp). I am surprised by the glowing reviews here. The food was institutional tasting and mediocre. We started with an order of chips, salsa, and guacamole. The chips were terrible and had an awful aftertaste. So did the salsa. The guacamole seemed processed. It's a pass. The burrito itself was blah. While I inquired about the more exotic vegetarian burrios on the menu -- such as the one vegetable burrito with tons of veggies -- I was directed towards a normal bean burrito and told to add three or four vegetables to it. I got mushrooms, onions, jalapenos, and spinach. It was nothing to write home about. It was lacking flavor, and tasted as if it was marinated in margerine. Wouldn't rush to go back. I think people in New Orleans rave about this place because the options are so few and people are happy to have some Mexican place to go to that offers a variety of options for those of different dining persuasions. I give Juan's credit for that. I wish I could give them credit for better food.

We were visiting NOLA and were thrilled to find this joint within walking distance to our hotel. Their guac and salsa is good, and their menu has some neat local flair to it. We ordered the Mardi Gras Indians tacos, and they were unique and quite good. The service was good and the atmosphere is fun. I'd definitely visit again!

Now you're talkin. This place is fantastic. The shrimp fajitas are wonderful. They give you everything you need. You know how some places don't give you sour cream or cheese? No need for worry here. You're fajitas came with you all you need and at a great price. Their shrimp fajitas are cheaper than most chicken fajitas at other places and so much better

Its Juans, so it kicks ass! The jerk chicken nachos would beat down any other nachos anywhere else, if chicken could wrestle. Because I'm a vegetarian, they always politely offer and agree to put the chicken on the side. The drinks rock, great prices and even better tasting! The decor is fun, and just simply awesome, like the music and location! Plenty of carnivore, vegetarian, and vegan options! The only reason for four stars? I have an undying loyalty to the Mid-City location. The service really is better, I dont feel like I'm asking for a favor by placing an order. Sometimes I feel almost intimidated by the servers at Magazine, which is tolerable, only because the food/drinks rock so much, but I'd prefer Mid-City!!!

I wouldn't say I'm a huge Mexican fan, but that's usually in terms of the cheap chain Mexican places that all taste the same. However, I love Juan's. It's tremendously better than any cheap Mexican place I've ever been, and I'm a huge fan of the drink menu that's not just margaritas and sangria - I'm not a fan of margaritas, but if I were, I'm sure I'd love the huge variety Juan's has. I do love sangria, but it's nice to have other cocktails on the menu as well. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Blue Pomegranate - the last time I was there, I ordered two while eating and got one to go. I've gotten the plain chicken and cheese quesadilla, which wasn't plain at all. I've gotten the House Quesadilla as well - love avocado. I've also had the Jerk Chicken Burrito, which was fabulous. A few times I've only gotten the appetizer of chips, cheese, guac and salsa as a meal, or I've picked this up to take over to a friends for a little get together - their guac is great! I'm very interested in trying many, many more of the entrees at Juan's. They're kind of large so I recommend splitting them or getting a to-go box.

This is my go to place when I have friends visit me in Nola. The food is cheap, fresh, the portions are large, and they are generous with the guac. I have never been disappointed with anything on the menu but I would recommend the Flying Burrito or Jerk Chicken Burrito. If you want a ton of food, go for the fajitas and I guarantee you will have leftovers. Everything comes out quickly, although it can be busy on weekend nights, just order a pitcher of margaritas or $3 beers and you won't mind the wait.

We arrived at our hostel late one evening and Juan's was the only place that still served dinner. We got some burritos and some margaritas. The drinks were average, made from mix. The burritos were (pardon my words here) disgusting. I don't know if it's a New Orleans' style, but the fillings were cold and unflavored. It just felt like a bunch of goo mixed with raw vegetables. It's not Mexican food at all.

I searched Hipster New Orleans in google and came up with "Hipster's Guide to New Orleans". I admit, when I first enter a city I look for what is hipster on yelp (it steers me in the right neighborhood at least) and what is the gay area (bottomless mimosas and strong drinks). They recommended this and it was right. Vegan and vegetarian food galore. Get the sangria (Watermelon and Blueberry), slash they did rum This might be the most straight forward and useful review I have made on this site. The place was that good, I made sense out of the universe for a period of time. I love you.

I didn't think I liked burritos very much until I started going to Juan's. They have every kind you can think of! Their margaritas are pretty fab, too. The atmosphere is cool and interesting... it's got sort of a hipster vibe, but without being pretentious. They also do take-out painlessly. Definitely check this place out if you get the chance.

It is bad enough to be accosted by crusties at every intersection and sidewalk in New Orleans, so it is no wonder I do not enjoy the atmosphere. I understand that Juan's wants to have a "feel" of being hip. I just don't like the possibility of getting hepatitis from my server with acres of tattoos, more rivets than a battle ship, or a used mop for a hair style. the lighting is fun and original, the music selection is great, however the volume and tone feels like I am standing under the loud speaker in a Korean MASH unit. I enjoy being able to talk to my friends while sharing a dinner. The food is okay. I do recall years ago when it had flavor and tasted fresh. Juan please have your cooks read over your recipes to make sure they are doing it right. Your food used to be the bomb. Is that you don't have the same competition for Americanized Mexican style food that you just gave up? Perhaps the gutter punk burrito is made from the new wave of gutter punks that have invaded the city. The rice and beans have no flavor just a bland slop to accompany the bland meat and the mediocre salsa. The Jerk chicken burrito at least has little pops of flavor from the miniscule portion of chicken inside. If Burrito was not in the name of your restaurant I would suggest that your signature dish be one of your nachos of quesodillas since they are not served with your bean and rice plop.

I had the flying burrito and, holy balls, that was amazing. As the family next to me got served a whopping' plate of kamehameha (sidebar: deserve honourable mention just for the name) nachos, I shook an angry fist at the heavens for having me travel on my own. Foodies should always move in packs, because of sampling. Lesson learned. Oh, let's face it: I'll be back for the bloody nachos. Amazing burrito, shrimp not normally being something's I enjoy in one of my favourite variations of the "food wrapped in bread theme" (the most noble of all food groups, really), but holy hell, they make it work. Why the star deduction, then? Well, this might be a spoiled former Mission hipster speaking, but it was a bit on the wee side. My hunger was appropriately sated, but I'm used to wanting to kill myself after having finished a burrito. A bit bigger for my 8 bucks wouldn't hurt. Just Sayan. (c wut I did thar?) On the plus side, my lemonade was big enough to drown a kitten in and very tasty, if a bit sweet. Very friendly service.

Muy Bueno!!! I'm talking tacos that are as good, or better, than any I've had in LA, Phoenix or Mexico. The pork & slaw taco... Mmmm! The carne asada taco... Delish. The fish tacos were both very good, however I preferred the redfish taco over the regular fish taco. Chips are so-so, but the salsa makes up for it. The margarita on the rocks is one of the best around, the service was great and the prices can't be beat! Can't wait to go back and explore the menu a little further. Juan's earned a spot on our restaurant rotation, for sure!

I had just gotten to town and walked what felt like eight hundred miles. I was starving. My friend and I walked up at 9:38 on a Thursday and they stop serving at ten. I told the girl who sat us that we felt like jerks, but that we would eat quick, she just stared at us. The food was super decent, we both got belly-filling veggie burritos. The margaritas were delis as well, and they were playing great music, which along with the ambiance made me want to dig this place .HOWEVER, I have never seen a group of people in a restaurant make it more obvious they wanted to get the heck out of dodge. They were scurrying around like ants, sweeping right next to us, asking us ten million times if they could take our plate, someone even held the door open as we were leaving (as to shoo us out) it was a very unwelcoming feeling. I work service industry and I have never been able to reflect an iota of impatience on guests as they did us. Did I mention we were there until 10:11? So we weren't being the lingering assholes that I personally detest, we were simply starving tourists trying to shred a burrito quick. They must've been in a hurry to go chain smoke cigarettes and not wash their hair some more.

Oh yum!!! very good, very fresh!! We had the chips & salsa - the salsa was very tasty - good chunks of tomatoes, etc fresh squeeze of lime juice... mmmm & I had the wet burrito - wow - very tasty - ALOT of food - could not finish that sucker! My honey had chicken tacos & he gave me a bite of the chicken - very nicely seasoned - very tasty!! we went at lunch & enjoyed the atmosphere! Still freakin' awesome - last couple of times got their Juaha Roll - a "sushi" roll with grilled chicken, spinach, avocado, salsa, jack and cream cheese rolled in a spinach tortilla - sooooOOOOOOOO good!!!!! mmmm addictive!!! Yum-freakin' OOOOO!!!!

This is a fun place for dinner or drinks. Last night the whole family made it out for my uncle's birthday and the staff seated us out on the patio since we had an ever changing number of people showing up. The patio was the right choice since it was a nice night for outdoor dining. Service was on top of things tonight and food came out quickly for the number of people in the party. Food's always been consistent for me but then again I'm not a big fan of Mexican to begin with so in general I'm a big fan of the tacos my favorite vegan went with her old favorite the Veggie Punk minus cheese. The layout of the restaurant is a little tight when heading in back since the service area is opposite of the kitchen so just keep that in mind when walking through. Overall, fun time and a good place for dinner and/or drinks.

After a very long walk from the CBD, a filling and delicious burrito was just what we needed. This cool little place has all sorts of interesting decor and equally interesting food options. They have the standard stuff. The chips & guac was pretty damn good. I ended up with a grilled veggie burrito- huge portion, stuffed full, very good. I wasn't really into trying any of their drinks, after a full night of Mardi Gras drinking the night before, but they had a full bar with all sorts of yummy looking drinks. Wait staff was super friendly and seating was "pick a spot and make yourself comfortable".

Good food and spin on traditional Mexican food. You have to get a burrito it and check out the specialty quesadillas! Grab a pitcher of margaritas and enjoy the fresh chips, guac and salsa. The atmosphere is different then most places- very quirky and fun. Service varies depending on the staff. They aren't always in the biggest hurry or the most welcoming.

Dirty? Yes, it can be dirty. New Orleans is a dirty city. Have you ever been to the bathroom at Cafe Dumond? Accept it and move on. The food here is terrific. Had the Juan's tacos, pork, tacos which were flavorful with shredded pork and black beans. Was asked if I wanted guacamole and sour cream which I did, and which only added to its tasteness. Tortillas are grilled; one was a bit hard. I didn't care. My friend had Mardi Gras tacos which consist of roasted corn, pinto beans, grilled squash, jack and cheddar cheese and spicy coleslaw. . Also extremely yummy. All tacos come in threes. Bottomless glass of sweet tea. Huge huge glass. Waiters? They can be surly or tatted or indifferent. I don't care. I want yummy, yummy food and Juan's has it.

I have never left here hungry. Juan's serves up the best burritos in the city. When in doubt, go with the Flying Burrito, although I have become rather fond of the Jerk Chicken. The queso dip/salsa appetizer is great, and you can get free refills. The specials are usually pretty good as well, and if they have the Tuna Tacos, you have to get them. The service isn't always on point, and they've been known to mix up a drink order or two, but as far as a casual, sit-down restaurant, this place is great.

We split nachos and the al pastor burrito. The burrito had a strange taste, but the nachos were good. It seemed like they had been sitting out for a long time, because the middle was already soggy. My biggest issue was the service. Not at all friendly or warm. Had to wait ages for a refill and then to pay the bill. It seemed that the staff was more into creating an "alternative" vibe than ensuring that the customers had an enjoyable experience. Will not be returning.

Cool place. Service was good/fun and friendly. The customers all having a good time too. We each tried something different. We shared the pork and slaw and also original flying burrito. They were both good, but the pork stood out hands down. A definite place to try again.

Juan's makes funky, delicious "Mexican" food. I'm not sure what you really call it (punk-Mex?) but it's good. It has an eclectic mix of burritos, quesadillas, and other fare. I like the Western burrito myself--grilled veggies, a meat, some sour cream and cheese. Their Bacon Azul quesadilla is a big mess of cheese, bacon, beef--throw salsa and ranch dressing on it (included) and it will help put you in your grave with a smile. Great for vegetarians too!! The original Magazine location has a completely different atmosphere than Mid-City; it's got a funky vibe to it and draws a lot of clientele from the Lower Garden District. Staff is great.

Great service, über accommodating staff and the food always, always hits the spot. The flying burrito and cucumber margarita are by far my two absolute favorite things from Juan's. and the waitstaff totally lets my little dude dance in the booths, the aisle, the doorway.. They pretty much rule.

Juan's is great. I recently moved to New Orleans and was craving some queso dip. I got a recommendation from friend and I was definitely pleased. Although I could fill up on chips and queso alone, I have ordered the shrimp tacos or shrimp burrito every time I've been. I brought my family, who was visiting for Christmas, and they all loved it. Our favorite Mexican restaurant back home closed last year, so they haven't had a good Mexican food fix in awhile. They want to come back here on their next visit, and we went to several other more upscale places. This was their favorite! Sundays they have double margaritas for $5 which is a great reason to visit that day.

Juan's has turned into a routine Tuesday Happy Hour stop for me lately. They have pint-sized margaritas for under five bucks until 7pm on weekdays (and I think all day on Sunday?) I've heard some mixed reviews about the table service, but I've always had great service at the bar. They must work on a set schedule, because I had the same bartender every week... except one week he went out of town and broke my little heart. If you're a girl on a budget the kids burrito is definitely adult sized and only $3. They'll even add avocado if you ask nicely :)

Good food. Fun mash-up of central american fare and new orleans classics. Some original ideas. My veg quesadilla was ok, a little bland. The special Oli had was much better. Black beans, shrimp, corn pudding. Good sh*t! Service was good.

Busting Nola we went for dinner, had a great time both with the food and service. The server was nice and gave us suggestions on the drink. We landed up ordering a margarita and one of the speciality drinks, which were both excellent. Ordered the jerk nachos which are extremely flavorful. The quantity was huge so we did not order anything else, will recommend this place to Everyone visiting Nola.

On a whim (inspired by Yelp) I walked 1.7 miles to get one of these famed burritos. While I got in quick (5pm on a Wednesday night) and had burrito in-hand in about 8 minutes after sitting, it was a little lackluster. First, the server (wearing tight black jeans, a basketball jersey, and a derby hat, I might add) seemed more intent on eating lollipops and talking to co-workers than seating me. He literally stopped en route to the table to grab a lollipop and, you guessed it, talk with someone behind the counter. After being seated and ordering, I quickly got served. Sadly, no chips and salsa comes with a meal, which really should be a standard. I ordered the Al Pastor burrito, which to their credit came quickly. However, after all of the hype on Yelp and my walk, I was left rather underwhelmed. The inside was a lackluster mash of ingredients and the jalapeno peppers (which I do enjoy) in such great quantity that it was hard to taste much else. The over size was good, but I was still left a little hungry at the end... a hole that some chips would have surely filled. I'll admit that I am rather picky about my Mexican food and this place has many redeeming qualities: the funky vibe and cool decor. Still, I see no need to return on my next trip to New Orleans.

I honestly have no clue how I have lived in New Orleans for so long and have yet to go to Juans. A friend told me I had to give it a try so I did and man I dig this place. My wife and I now go here frequently. I usually get the quesadillas when I go. The bacon azul (ground beef, bacon, blue cheese, jack and cheddar cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms) is frickin' amazing. We usually get the queso dip as well which we love. The beer selection is meh but the prices are good. Sometimes a cheap beer is a good thing! Overall this is a great place to eat with some killer grub. Check it out.

I've been eating here for years, but today I had a Jerk Gator Burrito and it was easily the best burrito I've had in forever. The best. I almost fell asleep into a blissful coma after, but instead gave the girl at the table next to me a dollar because it was her birthday. You know we do that here (here as in the region), right? Pinning dollars to the feted age makers. But I digress - - - The servers are always pleasant and efficient, and the menu caters to dietary needs. Pretty sure this Juan's blazed the way for the rest of the block to bring their A game. Great food, great location, great neighborhood.

Cold, clumpy low grade ground beef, dried up uncle Ben's rice, can tomatoes-- served cold. Bland-- all you can taste is tomato paste. Even if you put Valentino hot sauce on it-- it still tastes bad. Valentino can make even toenails taste good!! The tortilla was cold and stale. You eat with your eyes first. My eyes see a a mule's lunch regurgitated-- but out of the other end. I called to complain. The cashier said bring it back and we will replace it. I did not feel like driving back to get it replaced with a different, new (warmer) pile of poo. Juans burrito managed to offend all five of my senses. If you have any sense-- save your bucks for taco truck, Holly tamale-- even a stand out on chef menteur-- all will give you a far superior burrito.

Best burrito I've ever eaten in my life. I got the one named after the establishment and it's huge and filled with delicious goodness. Beef, chicken, and shrimp. All perfectly seasoned. Not a fan of their guac, but it is a huge portion for the price, in my opinion. I had taken it to go but the service I had was friendly over the phone and in the restaurant. Street parking.

I don't know how I've never reviewed this place! One of my favorite places in the city, it's a California-burrito-style restaurant with its own funky New Orleans vibe. Burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas. Great selection of veggie/vegan friendly stuff. Come here hungry, even the salads are huge.

Let me preface this with saying that i had heard about Juan's for years before actually coming here. The first time i came here i think i was still vegetarian and it was SO good! Over the years i've tried many many things on their menu and all are delicious. From the veggie to the gutter punk to the flying burrito. All are just so tasty and super cheap. They also have $2 PBR's if i'm not mistaken. One of the last times i came to this location our server had concocted some watermelon sangria that was DEEELICIOUS! Personally, i'm more of a fan of this location just b/c of the funky vibe and location.

It was the donkey that drew me in. Adorable! I'm the sort of person who buys things based on packaging and regrets it later, however this was not one of those times. My first experience at Juans was many years ago, just prior to the Parasols block party on St.Patricks Day. I'm not really a bean lover, so I skipped the burrito and went with some fajitas which were fan-bloody-tastic. I chose the 'Wicked Garden' varietal because (full disclosure) I'm an herbivore. For sixty-something cents more I added a couple extra veggies to the mix and it was love. I sang it Chris Isaak songs and made sure it felt special. Then I ate it, because it was starting to get cold. I've been back many times since, and have come to adopt a few other dishes (sister-wives style, they all get equal time and love from me), and have been very impressed. Sure, every now and again, this vegetarian finds a hunk of meat in her dishes there, but it's not a big deal. I'm not one of those militant types, and perhaps the chef thought I was looking particularly anemic that day? Juan's cares about things like that. They always feature fresh fruit mojitos (antioxidants?) cheap beer(stress reliever) and their bathroom is usually relatively clean. Go!

I think Juan's gets a lot of unnecessary flack. It is what it is. I hate that saying but it is true in Juan's case. This is not the restaurant you go to for Mexican food. But then again, it never says "Mexican restaurant" it says "Creole Taquería"; whatever the heck that means. Their margaritas are delicious but small for the price. If you like your margaritas in a "big girl glass" and not a "sippie cup" go during happy hour, they're 2 for 1 (double for the price of one). If you care that the wait staff all has tattoo sleeves and not real sleeves, don't go to Juan's. I have to admit, I have a soft spot for Juan's. I've been coming here since I was a lowly tourist and it was a great place to grab a drink and some food when I first moved to the city and knew no one. I have numbers in my phone that say things like "Annie-Juan's". These were people I first met when eating at the bar by my lonesome and we had such a great time that we continued to hang out and exchange numbers. So cut Juan's some slack huh? Food wise: I love the pork and slaw tacos (usual), the Mardi Gras Indian tacos (veggie option), and the bacon azul quesadilla (when you want something that just might kill ya, but at least it's a happy death). Happy hour really is the best time to go, cheaper drinks and fewer crowds.

I used to live a mere block from Juan's and am familiar with the lacking service and sometimes off-putting music blaring from the speakers. However, I went in there for lunch today and had a great server who deserves some accolades. If my receipt is telling the truth, her name was Jenny. She was super quick, not pushy, and friendly (well, as friendly as you could expect from a Juan's server). Also, I noticed a marked absence of obnoxious music playing. Juan's food was on point food wise as always. I love the fact that an appetizer, HUGE burrito, and soft drink costs me about $10. The burritos are big enough to split in half (I always do half for lunch, half for dinner). My personal fav is the beans & rice appetizer and the green burrito (add pork and dairy). Keep up the better service, Juan's, and I will frequent you much more often.

Decided to drop by here and order for takeout since I usually see the house packed like a can of sardines everytime I pass thru. Ambience is EXTREMELY loud, so if you aren't a huge fan of blaring loud music and not screaming to hold a conversation; you might wanna steer clear. Now, onto the food. I went simple with a basic shrimp quesidillia which was around $8 give or take a few cents. Not too shabby, and even with the packed house, the food was ready within about 5-7 mins which was excellent. Definiately will come back again, though I may be mostly a "take out" patron of Juans rather than a "in house" patron.

Te amo, Juan's. Your burritos are filling, and your drinks are... I can't recall, but I know they are good, too. Check out the vegetarian options, which are plentiful, including the veggie punk and the Mardi Gras Indian tacos.

The Jerk Chicken Burrito is awesome!!!! Last time I was in NOLA I ordered 8 and brought hem back to Memphis in a cooler. Every time I visit I have to stop here!

I wish I could give Juan's on Magazine (not Carrollton location) ten stars. I love Mexican food, and I love this place. Anytime my girlfriend asks where we should go for dinner, the first thing I say is Juan's. I usually and turned down quite a lot, because if we went every time I suggested it, I would weigh 500 pounds! Everyone complains about the shitty service, but I have never had a bad experience here! Yeah, it does get busy and can slow down sometime, but stop complaining and drink another $2 PBR in a can! Yes! $2 PBR! Awesome deal! As for the food goes, everything goes! I have never been disappointed. Chips and salsa & queso to start are a must! The super nachos are great, but they are huge! Plan on splitting these! All of the burritos are out of this world; The Flying Burrito, Western Burrito, Wet Burrito and Gutter Punk. The gutter punk is my go to. They also have some of the best Blackened Redfish Tacos! Wow, writing about juan's is actually making me want to go there right now! Even if the service is shitty, the food it totally worth it! ! ! !

I really like the food and the prices are pretty reasonable. I crave this place every now and again, which in a city with the number of offerings that New Orleans has, that says something to me. The artwork on the walls is fun, I've typically had pretty good service and the food has been consistent. They have a lot of vegetarian offerings that are thoughtful, so people that don't eat meat will feel catered to as opposed to just 'welcome'.

I've eaten here twice since moving to New Orleans, and I have to say I you can't go wrong with Juan's. As a vegan from New York who would frequent Chipotle for their veggie burrito / salad I have to say this place has it beat by a long shot. I've had the supergreen and spicy vegan tacos and both were some of the most amazing meals I've ever eaten. There's plenty of things on the menu that they will gladly veganize. They even give you a free refill on their amazing chips! I love it. On the other end of the spectrum, I guess the cons for this place would be it's always busy and as a result somewhat dirty. It has a great vibe to it though, so don't let that stop you from trying it. "We finally found a place we can agree on." -My omnivore girlfriend, I think that sums things up nicely.

I always order take-out from Juan's, because the place is often crowded, loud and full of cool young kids who make me feel my age, even though I'm still clinging to the last of my twenties.... I don't often stray from my usual order: (1) pork and spicy coleslaw tacos on corn tortillas (2) mardi gras indian tacos on corn tortillas (3) two house margaritas to go. Yes, margaritas to go, which was one of the best decisions I made last saturday afternoon when the heat index was north of 100 degrees. I love tacos. Authentic street-side tacos al pastor would be on my death row menu. Since I haven't been back to Mexico since 2007, Juan's enables me to get my fix... something to which I presume the staff at Juan's are accustomed. Pierced, inked and often surly, those guys sure make a damn fine taco.

I had the chile lime goat cheese quesadilla and chipotle shrimp and cheddar grits. Holy smokes! Delicious! Cool vibe too.

Quirky atmosphere, okay service and can get pretty packed. I really love good tacos and so maybe I'm more particular than others but I'd equate this to Chipotle or Moe's. They have unique combinations and everything seems pretty fresh but the flavor combinations aren't very mouth watering. Also, I ordered a cookie for dessert and it came wrapped in cellophane. I do like their house cocktails and they make a pretty spicey bloody mary :) And their guacamole is very good- totally not store-bought! I like Rum House down the street better but still worth trying!

Oh, so close to a 4 star review! Food was fantastic, though the service was a little slow and unresponsive. I think they might have been slipping away from time to time to finish their full body tattoos. Also, in a really cool neighborhood. Lots of million $ mansions scattered amongst the homes where us regular folks live...

Awesome place! This place was recommended to us by the staff at our hostel and we loved it! I think we probably ate here at least three times over 10 days, every time it was great. I had the veggie punk burrito the first and last time we were here and the Mardi Gras Indians tacos the second time. Both were really good and the prices here weren't too terrible either. The green tomatillo sauce they have on offer on the table is also to die for, so good. Waitstaff is super friendly, the place feels really chill so it's nice to step in and get out of the heat and just relax for a little bit before going out to do fun stuff.

Absolutely amazing. They are a casual gutter punk themed Tex Mex restaurant. The food is so good. The flying burrito is the ultimate. Fish tacos are super good as it is blackened/grilled mahi mahi, not the fried (and quite frankly less flavorful) Sonoran rendition. They also come with a house made mango salsa that is AWESOME. The shrimp and spinach salad was surprisingly good. The only thing I have against this place might be the guac, which by all accords tastes fine, maybe even good. But the color of the stuff makes me wonder how long it's been sitting out after having been pre-made. Regardless this place still deserves a stellar rating.

One of the best burrito place iv been to, and I'm from California/Arizona. Great funky place with a good bottle beer selection too. Went twice in our trip to NOLA it was that good. Had a wet burrito and Diablo Shrimp fajitas. If you like it spicy, get the Diablo Shrimp.

I have been to Juan's (on Magazine) more times than I care to recall. I love Mexican (and that may be an understatement). My food is always good. Never great. But that's okay because 1. It's Mexican, and 2. It's cheap. I have had the nachos and the flying burrito, which were awesome (and huge!), but I ususally go for the taco salad (it doesn't hold a candle to Serrano's, but who wants to drive out to Clearview on a random night... Everyone I've been with have had varied orders and I've never heard anyone say that they didn't like their meal. Things I don't like about Juan's. You have to order chips and salsa. Call me cheap, but I have been to some cheeeaaappp Mexican restaurants in moments of desperation to get a Mexican fix in the middle of nowhere and even they give chips and salsa for free. Another: More often than not our service is, shall we say, lacking. I've been ID'd multiple times during one visit for drinks. (I certainly do not mind being ID'd to begin with but once I have a damn drink, I feel like it's pretty easy to tell I am of age). Also, I had an experience where our group sat at a table for 20 minutes before we got a drink order. We even asked a waitress who was waiting nearby tables and she informed us that we weren't her table only to find out after several more minutes of waiting that we were, in fact, her's. No apology. She even seemed put out by it. I have also had a problem with getting my order correct here. (I'm not so sure what about "no dressing, extra salsa on the side" gives them such a hard time but it does). All-in-all, it Juan's my favorite mexican food in all of NOLA. Heck no. But it's close to where I live, cheap, and they have an awesome margarita selection. The cucumber margarita is the best margarita I have ever had. Ever.

I come from California which is practically the burrito capital of America. Its pretty tough to beat out a taco truck in LA or one of the million other family owned establishments. I was dragged here and wasn't really in the mood for mexican. But I ordered a burrito and was pleasantly surprised. Not the best I have had but very good none the less. For the money its a great deal - i really enjoyed the food. And the service was great too!

Magazine Street is a good bet for those looking to find good cheap food in New Orleans. Juan's Flying Burrito happened to be the closest cheap eats to the hostel I was staying at - what an incredible coincidence. The served an awesome jumbo mango shrimp salad the first time I came; it came with a bean quesadilla on the side that complemented the dish extremely well. As some others have noticed, the service could be a tad better, but for the price (and the relative timeliness of the service, in spite of the staff's surly demeanor) I'm not complaining.

Just moved here from San Francisco, so I'm spoiled for good Mexican food. We had some bad Mexican food already and this turned out to be surprisingly good. The ingredients were fresh, chips were crisp and chippy, salsa tasted fresh and was well balanced. I had the special of the day which was two Tostadas with guajillo chile sauce. Delicious. Nice and spicy without burning my mouth off. Service was good (late lunch time, around 3) and nice atmosphere.

There's nothing wrong with the food, it's all pretty good. But I've noticed the servers never smile. I mean, I get it, smiling sucks. But making the customer feel like they've inconvenienced you somehow - not always a good look, holmes.

The first meal we had when we arrived in NOLA and I was beyond impressed. I got the flying burrito and it arrived very quickly. When I took the first bite my eyes literally lit up. I want some more of this place before I head back home.

I'm still on the search for the best Mexican food in New Orleans. Unfortunately, I did not find it at Juan's Flying Burrito. I was seated by an indifferent waitress. I got the chips and salsa. Chips were ok, salsa was very mediocre. I ordered the flying burrito, which, according to the menu, consisted of chicken, shrimp, and steak. There might have been two small pieces of steak in the entire burrito. In addition, the whole thing was poorly wrapped, and came apart easily. It was ok, but definitely not worth the $8.25 I paid for it. As other Yelpers mentioned, service is not great. The waitress was very indifferent; I don't think she smiled once. In addition, the whole restaurant feels kind of...cramped. Bottom line: OK Mexican food, but not a good value. I would recommend Felipe's Taqueria or Superior Grill over this place any day.

Fabulous Creole Mexican faire FOOD: Tacos - Mardi Gras Indians "roasted corn, pinto beans, and grilled squash with jack and cheddar cheese, spicy slaw on grilled corn tortillas" $7.00 Three reasonably big tacos with lots of tasty filling. The melted cheese with soft veggies paired well with the cole slaw. Nice, very subtle kick. Calmingly lovely eat! Tacos - Blackened Redfish "with creamy cilantro slaw and salsa fresca on grilled flour tortilla" $9.95 Three reasonably big tacos with strong flavors. The cubes of redfish have quite a bit of seasoning and salt. Very tasty Side of grilled broccoli $0.65? Healthy greens to balance all the fried food you'll indulge in around town. Cooked well. Not greasy or salty. DESSERT: Popstars's pumpkin chocolate chip popsicle "chocolate ganache chips with ginger spiked fresh pumpkin and chocolate ice cream" $2-3 Yum! So much flavor! Brings back the ten years old giddiness. The pumpkin was nicely spiced, and the chocolate was chocolatey. The long pieces of chocolate ganache were delicious. The popsicle wasn't icey, which was great. I loved the star shape of the popsicle too. AMBIANCE: Hip 'n young spin on a taqueria. Booth seating and tables. Loved the awesome color-rotating "chandelier" made of jars! SERVICE: Fine VISIT DETAILS: Wandered in with a friend during our tour of Magazine St.

Generally, I'm not a huge fan of mexican food, but Juan's Flying Burrito is pretty freaking awesome. They've got a huge menu, tons of vegetarian options, and an interesting collection of servers with an equally eclectic decor. They also have an unusually broad selection of margaritas--not as in flavored margaritas, but as in whether they're made with cointreau or triple sec, whether they've got grand mariner floating on top, and so forth. Then again, perhaps this isn't unusual; I seem to (vaguely) remember that Superior Grill has a similarly broad selection. Both Juan's locations are equally good, as far as I'm concerned, though I end up at the Magazine Street location more often. The food is always fantastic at either place, and the portions are huge, so if you go for dinner it's likely you'll go home with tomorrow's lunch, as well. According to their (rather elaborate) website, there's apparently a new patio at the Magazine Street location. Good weather for it, but it sounds like the patio is largely for smokers, which is bound to ruin your meal. Unless you're a smoker, I suppose. Always a great choice, if you've not made it to Juan's yet, definitely go check it out the next time you're craving really, REALLY awesome mexican food.

You know a place is good when you go there two days in a row. Huge burritos, solid fish tacos, amazing crawfish queso dip, and cupcakes for dessert! Very solid lunch spot; expect to pay close to $13 though.

I love Juan's. Particularly this one. The food is good, the drinks are good the atmosphere is loud and folk artsy and the crowd is varied. All of this and it's cheap and plentiful. I remember the first time I went. We had the HIGHEST waitress who has ever waitressed. She never wrote anything down but she didn't mess our order (6 people) up at all. Amazing. I recommend the pulled pork and slaw tacos.

I don't love Mexican-inspired food, as it usually upsets my stomach, but Juan's Flying Burrito really broke the mold. It was a tough menu decision, but the Pork & Slaw Tacos were absolutely the right choice - and I don't even like coleslaw! The shredded pork was tender & not at all fatty; the coleslaw was just the right amount of spicy; the cheese was minimal but just enough to add to the other flavors without overwhelming them. Man, my mouth is watering at the memory... I wish I lived closer than halfway across the country so I could make it back more regularly!

I really loved the food here! It was an interesting blend of local NOLA flavor with traditional Mexican dishes, very tasty! The margaritas were excellent and pitchers were reasonably priced. I ate th enchiladas and they were very good, the portion was rather large but I was very satisfied with my choice. I am pretty picky about my Mexican food but I will definitely be eating here again.

This is a great local spot in the Mid-City section of NOLA. We ate here on our last night. Be prepared to wait! It was pretty crowded and we probably waited for our food for about 30 minutes. Perhaps you could call in earlier to place your order to cut down the wait time. When we got our food, (fish tacos and the Luau quesadillas) we were not disappointed! It was delicious! Great tex mex food in the Big Easy.

I never want to give bad reviews I try to always just state the positive but we left early before ordering... I have to say the one on Carrolton was Great so I went to this one on Magazine and we ended up leaving after 1 beer and some chips and salsa... it may have been just as Great but if you don't like your job just QUIT. After this I have heard from several people that they have Great food but they are also well known for shitty service. I don't get it... You are in the service industry. It's like one guy said below you get that "I'm 20yrs old with more tattoos than you and I'm better than you attitude." Never again.

A recent transplant from California, last night was my first... and last visit to Juan's Flying Burrito. It's not that it was terrible... it just wasn't good, in any way. My test-dish for Mexican is always a vegi super burrito: meat is too easy to make delicious. A simple vegi burito with all the fixins is a perfect guide to see if a place knows how to cook good Mex. -Beans took up 80% of the burrito and were flavorless. -Rice seemed to have been boiled and strained, rather than steamed, and was also flavorless. -Guacamole was NOT made from fresh avocados, poured out of a plastic package and... flavorless. -Cheese and cream were ok, and tomatoes were... fresh! Wow! +1 No lie, last night I had a dream that I was at Juan's, trying desperately to give the cook tips on how to make their food more than "just edible". "Mexican rice is so EASY! Garlic, onion, cumin, tomatoes, vegetable broth!!!.. and STEAM it!", I urged. "Just beans in your black beans?? Come onnn, throw some garlic, onion, bell peppers, cilantro, and lemon juice in there", I pleaded. "Wheres the lettuce? Fresh avocados? Homemade salsa?", I went on. And then I woke up.

I was craving a good burrito while my boyfriend and I were visiting New Orleans. We read good reviews about it, so we thought we'd give it a try. My boyfriend ordered the Kamehameha nachos and I got the Western burrito. My boyfriend was very disappointed in the nachos. The flavors mixed together just did not taste right to him. The burrito was pretty mediocre to me. I would've been more satisfied with a Chipotle burrito unfortunately. I don't think we'll be coming back.

Oh Juan's, how much I love you, your funkiness and all. Juan's is my favorite place in the city to get mexican food. I have been here so many times and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the jerked chicken nachos, the taco salad, the house quesadilla with chicken, the house tacos with chicken, the pork and slaw tacos, the gutter punk burrito, the blackened redfish tacos, and my ultimate favorite is the mardi gras indian tacos. They have all kinds of grilled squash and beans and corn and some other grilled veggies in them, yummy!!!! For the out of towners, you should be expecting a very different experience from your usual mexican restaurant. It is artsy, funky, grungy and loud. Your server may have tattoos all over and attire that is inappropriate at other eating establishments. Do not let this discourage you. Juan's I'll be back really soon.

I came here when I first visited NOLA, prior to moving here for grad school, and while I still enjoy the place, I didn't return nearly as frequently as to superior...the clientele and staff are very 'grungy' or alternative, but in a trying way too hard to be tough manner...this also makes the customer service quasi poor, but thats probably dependent upon what server you get... negatives include chips being not all you can eat/free refills, parking can be tricky (for NOLA standards), and its more dinghy than superior...the fajitas were good, although i was still hungry afterwards due to the non all you can eat chips..also, the margaritas are pretty small.. it is one of only 2 mexican restaurants in nola i would say are worth going to though!

This is the ultimate mexican place in New Orleans. They have the best best vegan options. They also have great margaritas and the staff have been great. Thank you Juan's for remembering that vegans do exist, even in New Orleans.

I stopped in after a long shopping and walking day on Magazine St and in the garden district. I sat at one of four bar stools and started with a margarita with Patron Silver - good, but nothing special. I think at a cute, authentic, non-chain neighborhood place like this they should use only lime juice, no sour mix. It's a cop out. I had the al pastor burrito with a side of guac. The pork was delicious. A couple of times I've ordered pork burritos or tacos at other places and have bit into fat chunks -totally disgusting. At Juan's, the pork was picked over perfectly. The pork was wrapped up with a lively pineapple salsa and yellow rice. And not too much rice. A lot of other places fill the burrito with rice, but this one had mostly pork. The squeeze bottles of red and green salsas were a nice accompaniment. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. And the locals were nice to talk to. I'd go again on my next trip for a savory casual treat.

Prefacing this whole review with the caveat that I lived in California for 8 years prior to moving here, so have a kinda high standard for Mexican fare. On that note, Juan's is hit or miss - in regards to food and service. Ambiance is pretty lively, I generally dig the decor and vibe. Blackened redfish tacos were delicious tonight, but tacos I've gotten on other evenings (like the pork and fried fish taco) were somewhat disappointing. Burrito another day was bland with mushy rice and runny beans. However, the crab cakes and queso dip at Mid-City location were awesome! Oh wait, this is for the Magazine outpost, oh well... On the service tip, has ranged the gamut from surly and bitchy to quirky and fun. In fact, my next door neighbor was a waitress there and told me she didn't really eat there much herself... but well... her boyfriend is a chef so...yah, so, so.

I moved to Brooklyn 5 years ago and continue to wake up at night in a cold sweat craving a chicken Flying Burrito. I still come back here whenever I'm in NOLA. I don't know why, but they're food isn't as heavy as other Mexican joints - you don't feel nearly sick after eating.

I think Juan's can be defined, in a good way, by my experience this past weekend: Sitting at the bar, drinking margarita's, watching the LSU game... The 2nd half kicks off in a very close game & the staff decides that Pirate's of the Caribbean 2 on mute would be much more rewarding for their customer base. Keep in mind, this was the sequel, not the original....and no one but me even began to care. Classic. This place has got character!

This review should be bad, but somehow its still good. I've been here a number of times as an out of towner and its definitely one of my favorites in the lower garden district. On visit one, we ordered a bunch of stuff for takeout. Let's just say one item was not as ordered and another was straight up missing. No worries, the food was plentiful and we still had enough to eat. I called them on it and they offered for me to stop by at my convenience and they'd provide the missing item as well as a free beverage. I took them up on it and they provided a VERY large and delicious mojito in a go cup. Nice fix Juan's! The Flying Burrito was still very delicious even if I ate it as a late night snack instead of for the meal originally intended. Love that combo of steak, shrimp and chicken. I wouldn't have thought I would. The next one was the jerk chicken burrito which I was hoping to be spicier, but its ok. The hawaiian style Nachos were excellent. My one critique is they don't seem good at substitutions or leaving things off. If its important to you, make a BIG deal with the waitress so they really remember. Lots of veggie options here to which always helps with a group.

I've been twice now to Juan's and definitely plan on making this one of my regular places. We had Laura as our server today and she was super awesome- they are often really busy in there but she took great care of us. Always a huge fan of good service! The first time I had the chicken burrito- it was pretty good, no complaints, but I think I like Felipe's slightly better. Chips and guac are always good and the salsa is nice too. Not super spicy, which is how I prefer it. Today I branched out and tried both the regular fish tacos (with mango salsa) and the blackened redfish tacos. The mango salsa was delicious, although it definitely had more of a kick than I thought- but overall I really preferred it to the redfish tacos. They were both quite good though, and 3 for $9 isn't bad ($7.95 if you only do the fish tacos). On a grad student budget, it's a great meal for a decent price, and a cool atmosphere.

Michelle was RIGHT on!!!!! I volunteered with a non-profit based on Magazine, knew people on Magazine, lived on Magazine eventually, and every time I came "home" to Nevada, I'd think about Juan's and how much I wanted it. Chipotle doesn't compare. IZZO'S is great but not the same as Juan's. Shrimp Juaha and the Flying burrito for the win. And if you're not into huge burritos, go to Del Taco or something. This place is for people with good taste. Interesting to see a friend from Mojo's working here now after a few months of not being in Louisiana. Oh, Juan's. How I love thee.

punk rock beer and burrito dive, but great fold, was there way ahead of the burrito bar fad, service marginal provided on level of sobriety, think full arm sleeve tattoos and face piercings is prerequisite for a job there, but all falls into the experience, hence not a place for everyone, but a classic none the less

I am not sure that one can really refer to Juan's Flying Burrito as a Mexican restaurant, but I still like it. Their quesadillas are more like crepes and their burritos are more like wraps, but their food is tasty and that is all I care about in the end. My personal favorite is the blackened fish tacos yum!

I've heard (non-yelp) things before eating here and my food was better than expected. The margaritas were strong, the burrito was amazingly delicious, and the staff were friendly and willing to talk with customers. Having the female staff all look like Sucide Girls was an added bonus!

I don't get it. The food is bland and not particularly good yet a lot of my friends seem to love this place. Also had a horrendous experience with a gift card from Juan's. After getting the gift card in a charity auction, we tried to redeem it on Magazine street and were told it was only valid at the Midcity location. When we traveled - somewhat reluctantly to the Midcity location since one meal was enough - we were told that the gift card was only valid at the Uptown location. Eventually after wrangling with the manager for 15 minutes we were able to use it - but I thought the entire experience was ludicrous.

I'm kind of in the middle of the road on this joint. It's around the corner, so we eat there relatively often -- but I've never had outstanding food or service. The food is good and hits the spot but I've never been wowed. Good selection of drinks and they do a good job with food for the wee folks too which is nice... guess that's part of what keeps us coming back!

Went here with the boyfriend one night. I love the decor in here. I got the Al Pastor burrito... I love pineapples on my pizza, so why not try it in a burrito? WRONG. DO NOT DO IT! I couldn't even take more than 3 bites of this burrito before I was over it. Gave it to the boyfriend and he just picked through the burrito for the meat. However, he thoroughly enjoyed his steak burrito. So yeah... in this instance, choose wisely.

This review is a little late because I've been tied up with holidays. One extremely slow night, my coworker and I were famished but didn't know what to get. After looking over Slice's menu, we saw they were in cohoots with Juan's. Since I had yet to try them (le gasp!), I figured we'd give them a swing. I ordered the Gutter Punk, while my co-worker got the Big Green. I have to say that's one of the better tasting gutter punks I've experienced ( no I haven't eaten gutter punks...recently.) and she (my co worker) digged the green. My only gripes are that it doesn't have the spiciest sauce, which I expect with tex-mex. Parking's an issue as well (in this city, when is parking not an issue?) but otherwise a great spot.

I would have given it four stars had it not been for the GOD AWFUL service! The food is alright. It didn't blow my mind but it's hard to find good Mexican food in this city and until I get back to California, it will do just fine. Hell it might even be good. But OH DEAR GOD the service was terrible. Now don't get me wrong, I am sure there are some lovely, friendly servers in this restaurant. There has to be. The hostess was hardly friendly but she was nothing compared to our miserable waiter. I don't know if the guy didn't want to be there that night or what but that's no excuse to treat your customers like they are shit! We were continuously ignored while he did more important things (drinking something, texting someone) and when we finally did get our food he fucked the order up. One thing just never showed up, and he mixed up two burritos. Those things are pretty indistinguishable from the outside so my poor friends ate each other's order. But the pièce de résistance? When one of us, not me thank god, got food poisoning roughly an hour after we left Juan's. Thanks, Juan's!

"It's not like what we're used to, just a matter of being in New Orleans, but it does the trick," whispered my friend Mark as we walked inside. What he said. It was a new experience getting a Cajun style burrito, but also being served my burrito by an actual waiter. What?! Our waiter was fast, nice, and very tolerant of our group sitting for a long time talking med school. The guac was good, but the chips could use some work. I had the Al Pastor with carnitas, onions, pineapple salsa, sour cream, jalapenos, cilantro, pinto beans and rice. My burrito was surprisingly very tasty and had great depth of flavor, but wasn't very well wrapped (I hate it when they fall apart on me!). It did the trick.

Oh how I love New Orleans. It's such a slow and sexy spot, with its weeping willows and jazz tunes playing everywhere. And it's the kind of spot where everyone will ask you "Did you go to X or Y or Z" restaurants because they all have their 5 distinct favorites for food. Juan's, I suspect, is a local favorite. On cute Magazine St., you walk in to color overload and imaginative lanterns made out of who knows what. We had the queso (yum), fish tacos (amazing tartar), and enchiladas. And of course, Patron margaritas. 1, which turned into 2, which turned into a 3rd for the road, which turned into a fun afternoon. Yep, I officially love NOLA.

I loved Juan's on Carrollton, so when I was in Uptown and hungry I convinced my friends that this was the place to go. I was seriously disappointed. When we walked in, there was another group of 3 ahead of us. Once the host put us on the list for a table, he asked us to wait outside, I assume because it's a pretty narrow place. My only objection to this is that it was far from warm outside tonight. While waiting, I noticed two different parties that arrived after us get seated before us. We hadn't been waiting all that long so I didn't say anything, and when all was said and done, we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes before they seated us. It took another 5 minutes for a server to acknowledge us. We ordered drinks and some guac, and when it came she just put the basket down and walked away. Didn't say our drinks would be right out, didn't ask if we needed anything in the meantime...just walked away. Ok fine, whatever. Our drinks and food came in an ok amount of time (brought to the table by some one else), but then our server never once checked on us. Literally not once. She walked by plenty of times. At this point, my mouth was getting pretty hot and I badly wanted a glass of water, but out of principle (because I'm stubborn like that) I decided to see if she would ever stop and check on us, instead of flagging her down. The ONE time she came to our table, she silently dropped our bill on the table and kept walking. She looked at me when she did it, and I tried my best to stare her down and get her to stop and ask if we were ok, but she apparently had somewhere more important to go. She walked by a couple more times before a different server saw our cards out to pay the bill, and stopped to take care of it for us. That server was friendly. Our server seemed to have forgotten that she's in a tipped position. Maybe she was trying to use all of her piercings, tattoos and dreads as an excuse not to care. Oooh, look at me, I'm so punk/goth/emo/whatever the hell it is that I don't actually have to wait on you because I'm too cool for that. Well guess what? I'm driving to Mid City next time.

This is a fun place to eat. I've had both eat in and take out, and both times the service was excellent and/or the order was ready when I got there. The servers are upbeat and polite. The food is creative and tasty. The ambiance is lively and light hearted. The only thing is that I don't think this is very Mexican. Where is the lard in the mushy refried beans (Juan's beans aren't mushy)? Where is the little old lady with the hair-net and scowl who brings your food quickly but looks like she wishes you were gone? Maybe this is the way Mexican food has evolved and I'm just remembering the good old days when you ate Mexican and felt guilty about the seven gazillion calories you consumed. On the other hand, you didn't have to eat for about three days afterward (lard really sticks to the ribs). I'll go back fersure. I want to drink my way through their drink menu. That looks very interesting.

I know a few of my friends in town are fans but I am not at all. A group of us went in and it's not too big and the layout is kind of crowded so I'd say it's probably not a good place for large groups. The food was okay. I got the beef enchiladas and it just wasn't memorable. Probably should have gone with a burrito since that's what they're known for. My biggest problem with the place was the service. The waitress was extremely rude and completely ignored us. She took forever to take our order, then our food came and that was it until the bill came. No drink refills. I also tried to make an order to-go for my guy since he couldn't make it and while it looked like she wrote down what I ordered to go, I never got it, but thankfully I was never charged for it. The few times we did interact with her, she kept rolling her eyes and sighing as if she didn't want to be there. Now I don't mind slow service and I can understand if a place is crazy busy, I've been there and I try to understand. I can't understand a bad attitude and treating us like crap for no apparent reason. If we're not welcome, then I guess I won't be going back. I hope other people have better luck.

It's Friday night in New Orleans. Where am I headed ? Juan's! I always end my work week with their wonderful margaritas (especially grand if Mowgli is making them!), and food that is always great. I'm telling you, everything on the menu is delicious. The atmosphere is laid back, the music is fab, and the service terrific, especially if you get one of the gorgeous gals, Jenny or Lauren. We always feel welcome here, and we leave a bit buzzed, happily full, and we get 2 Old School cupcakes for later! Whenever we have visitors from out of town, we always take them to Juan's.

Oh man, this place is rockin'. If loving crawfish tails drowning in queso dip is wrong, I don't want to be right. This place serves up a damn lot of food for not a lot of money (you won't be able to finish it all, I assure you), and every bite of it is delicious. The jerk shrimp has magical powers. And an important thing to mention during the summer months: the AC is magnificent. My birthday dinner at Juan's made my trip to New Orleans!

Found this hole in the wall place while exploring New Orleans looking for a cheap place to eat. This place is amazing for burritos and margaritas! "The best burrito I have ever had" were the sentiments of my husband and me. The prices were reasonable and the two for one happy hour margaritas were VERY strong and tasty! I highly recommend this place. And the atmosphere is really laid back with funky alternative art on display. I do, however, think their specialty is the burrito. We actually went there twice in the same trip, and I wasn't impressed with the other dishes I tried, but the burrito was excellent. And the mint chocolate brownie was actually VERY good. Wish I would have taken more of the desserts with me!

I very seriously have no clue how people give this place a bad review. I moved to Louisiana last year, and I ate juan's the first day here, and I've gone back at LEAST once a week since. The food is amazing if you're not boring and like to try their unique dishes. Be adventurous if you're going to go. The music is only loud at certain times of day (when it's slow and they feel like enjoying their music; it's understandable). The wait staff is great, there's only one girl there who I have an issue with, she tends to ignore my politeness and pay attention to my boyfriend. I mean, if you like him, be a little less rude about it. Anyway, everything is amazing here, the food, the art, the atmosphere, the location, etc. oh, and their back outside area is pretty cool too. I recommend this place to EVERYONE and honestly, if I could live upstairs and never have to cook again, I ABSOLUTELY would!!!! Favorite place to eat ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, for anything that I think people might wonder when thinking about coming here: - The atmosphere is "rock" I suppose, they play some hipstery music sometimes, some metal stuff, some hair band stuff, all kinds of stuff. -The waiters/waitresses are mainly all tattooed, they're all very friendly, it's mainly all ladies with the customers and men in the kitchen [you can see the entire kitchen, so you know they're not spitting in your food or anything, haha] - They have large booths, small booths, and tables with chairs. - There are tvs with movies/shows on and occasionally sports playing. They actually turn the captions on so you know what's going on. - They have awesome desserts, delicious cupcakes and popstars! [unique popsicles] - It's very family friendly, considering I ALWAYS see families with kids in there. [Never seen any annoying/loud children though, thank god] There's also a kiddo menu. - The outdoor seating is nice and plentiful, there's only two tables out front, but there's more out back! It's fenced in and you don't have the homeless walking past you giving you looks. - The wait for seating is never too long and it's always worth it. - You can pick up food to go, and they have togo cups for drinks [which, it sounds stupid to bring up, but sometimes buying a fancy drink isn't worth it if you don't know if you'll be able to finish it before you leave] - The waitresses never ever make you feel guilty if something isn't the exact way you wanted it. I've had my taco's soft shell a liiiittle too toasted [so they'd crack a little when I went to pick up the whole thing] and they've been VERY polite about the situation! - AIR CONDITIONING AND FREE WIFI, THANK THE HEAVENS!!!! - The cups your sodas come in are HUGE and you'll likely not ever need a refill. - Parking is never an issue, there's plenty of residential side streets with no meters. - The specials boards always change and have mouth watering food on them, order that stuff, you won't regret it. Okay okay, sorry. Now it's obvious how much I love the place, hahaha.

I've been going to Juan's for a long time. I've lived in NOLA for almost ten years, been a visitor even longer, and Juan's is always on the list. I'm no expert on "Mexican" food. I think most Americans wouldn't know real Mexican food if it jumped up and bit 'em on the ass, and I'm one of those Americans. I do know that Juan's is excellent AMERICAN Mexican food. Like I said, I've been coming here to eat for probably almost 15 years now, and I can't think of a single bad experience. NOT ONE. Sure, the wait staff can occasionally be a little surly but it's usually when they're swamped and every table is full. Most of the time I get great service here. The food is good and cheaply priced. I always leave with leftovers and can get two or three meals out of one plate. The margaritas are pretty good, and that's coming from someone who isn't really a big fan of margaritas. The decor and atmosphere is great. They always have cool art on the walls and interesting light fixtures/sculptures hanging from the ceiling. The music can sometimes be a little too loud for me, but who can complain when you're grooving to Ace Frehley while digging on burritos? NOT ME. My favorite dishes are the chicken Juaha rolls, the Luau quesadilla, the Flying Enchiladas, and the Wet Burrito (with a menu change I think they have renamed it the Mojado, but the dish itself has not changed). Juan's is worth the trip. Don't let the bad reviews scare you off.

Great tastey burrito's and quesadilla's. I got my first burrito wet and came with a heaping mound of sour cream and mole sauce. The second time I went opted for the pork and pineapple slasa burritto also delich! My wife loved her quesadilla.

Service here is pretty awful 75% of the time...Cool place and good food. Even had a server plop down beside me in my booth to tell me if I had an issue I should just tell her to her face instead of leaving her a note. (Which also included a 20% tip) I wasn't aware the guest was supposed to tell the server how to give good service...??

Sometimes it seems to take awhile to get my check or drink order, but it's usually worth the wait. I LOVE the Gutter Punk, Jerk Chicken Burrito and Flying Burrito. The prices are good, and the burritos are nicely sized...too big most of the time. I love the vibe in there...the art decor and crowd. Its basic, unique and tasty!

Reasonably priced and sometimes crowded. I like to keep it simple with Mexican food. Or should I say American? So I had chips and salsa, tacos Americanos and Dos Equis. Pretty tasty. The people I was with had the crawfish queso, fish tacos and pulled pork taco and spicy coleslaw. They loved it. Be prepared to be served by Zakk Wylde or Kat Von D

Juan's has never let me down, and my most recent experience was no exception. A good friend of mine had never been here and had heard great things, so I scooped up the opportunity to go and stuff myself. It was St Patrick's Day, so there was a small crowd of revelers dressed in green. We had a short wait before we were escorted to our tiny table in the back by one of the waitresses. I love how ecclectic this place is. The waitresses are always friendly and the burritos are to die for. We both had the gutter punk burrito with mango margaritas. This place ranks among my favorites on Magazine St. If you like a hole in the wall feel with a fabulous, cost-friendly menu, then Juan's is your spot. We had quacamole, burritos, and margaritas and the final bill was just over $30. It doesn't get much better than that!

  • Michael S.

Okay, so I've had some good and bad experiences at Juan's. If I always ordered out, I would give the place 5 stars. But unfortunately half the staff are hipsters that dont care for service and think they're a lot more interesting than they are. With that being said, most the burritos are amazing and the prices are more than reasonable. The margaritas, although good, have never lived up to their hype for me. Food: A Margaritas: B Environment: B Service: C-

Juan's Flying Burrito, fell flat on its face. I had the enchiladas, and have had much better. My wife had the Quesadillas, and they were BAD. First, who cooks the lettuce INSIDE of the quesadilla? You end up with wilted, slimy lettuce. Second, who charges for the sour cream? This is not supposed to be cafeteria fare. The only thing holding this place together was the great service. Go a few blocks down the road to Nacho Mammas.. Where the chips and salsa are not only, but the food actually tastes good.

ME: (This F***en guy).. Dude - We're just a few days more than 2 months from being just 2 years under 30 - Thirty! BARTENDER: (mouth slightly agape) you pushing me? ME: Easy Mr. PBR. (turn to friend) Lets go wait outside and you can have a sipperette. Fuck this guy. The food is bland and overpriced for Mex - but maybe that's just because I live in LA.. where finding a good taco is easier than finding an aspiring "actor" living beyond their means. The X

The service was great and the atmospherre was fun. We had the tacos and enchiladas with rice and beans. I did not like the rice at all. The rest was ok. I wasn't a huge fan but I'd like to come back and try the burritos and nachos. I watched them go by while we waited for our order and they looked awesome. There was a steady flow of people coming and going so maybe we just missed the really good stuff.

I was originally drawn to this restaurant because who doesn't want to try out a place that says "creole taqueria" on the sign? Then there was the part where the people who run the yarn shop like it so much they have the menu in the shop so they can order their own lunch there. I was pleased by all the vegetarian options (hard to find in NOLA) and by the creative flavors on the menu. The sign on the door advertising their various fruity mojitos clinched the deal. The raspberry mojito? DELICIOUS. so much goodness in a glass! The salsa--yum. The guacamole was passable but not good enough for me to keep eating when I'd just come from Mexico... I had a wet burrito, to which I added some grilled veggies. So much delicious! I mean, really, so much. As in, it was huge. The burrito was literally the size of my head. It was stuffed with rice, whole beans, grilled veg, and cheese. It was smothered in a slightly spicy red sauce with hints of creole and hints of mexico. Then more cheese was baked on top. It was humongous and yet I ate the whole thing...I left maybe one bite of folded tortilla from the end--and that only because I had just eaten something that was twice the size of my stomach. I couldn't help it, it tasted so good! The price can't be beat, and the food is good. I'd stop by again next time I'm down there! I want to try out the nachos and the quesadilla with sweet potatoes and...umm...everything else! I looked at the menu for probably 20 minutes before settling on what I would eat, because there were so many options.

Um... Yea Juan's is the sh*t!!! I ate there yesterday for the millions time and once again it was excellent. The Flying Burrito is amazing! I'm a rocker and I like the fact that its run by other rockers and tattooed freaks and the cooks get to choose the music that is played in the restaurant. Black Sabbath was blasting as I ate! Its just the place to eat for me. When I'm on the south shore nine times out of ten I go to Juan's.

Juan's is by far one of my favorite inexpensive places to eat in New Orleans. I've brought many friends there and everyone of them can't wait to come back. The service is outstanding, the food is always great, and the prices simply can't be beat! My favorite menu item would have to be a tie between the Flying Burrito and the Pork & Slaw Tacos. Each and every time my wife and I have been there, it's been a real treat. Highly recommended!

This is one of our favorite places to eat. My husband (then boyfriend) and I used to walk here form our house all the time. The neighborhood is full of restaurants but we always found ourselves at Juans. We live in a totally different neighborhood and have 3 kids now but we still love eating there and the kids do too. So, my favorite items are the luau quesadilla (shrimp, bacon & pineapple), the fish taco's (I love the mango salsa) and most of the burrito's. I also like their margarita's and I love the chips and salsa. The atmosphere is cool too. There's some crazy artwork, chandeliers made of recycled materials and a real mixed crowd of patrons. I've also been to their other location on Carrolton Avenue. It's good, but I like this one much better.

Juan's is a great neighborhood joint. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and fast. It is a great place to chill at the bar by yourself, or hang out with friends at a table. Juan's did a great job of hosting a big party on the outside patio tables-- when we arrived, chips and salsa and guac and margaritas were already waiting for us. The owner is a great guy. I recommend the jerk chicken burrito and any of the quesadillas.

Mmmmm. Mexican. Lots of it, in different ways, shapes and forms. Fresh, comforting, delicious. So good! Everyone's order was tasty, and I know, I had a bite of everything. Service not so much. There isn't anything I can't tell you to order, my only advice is to have your ENTIRE order ready to go, drinks and all, at once. Good luck getting a refill or another beer in a timely fashion. Don't let it be a deterrent though...come eat here anyways. But, maybe...order yourself say, 2 or 3 beers and 2 waters with your food. When the waitresses look at you like you're insane, just smile like Mona Lisa because you already know what they would do before they DON'T do it. PS--bring a hearty appetite for the burritos. None of us could finish ours, and we were hungry...

Juan's never gets old. I love all of their food. I always start with the guacamole and queso with chips which is just awesome. Never skip on the margarita either. The premium ones are very affordable and worth it. The Spy Boy is a winner. Then choose either a ginormous burrito or the many taco choices. Another margarita will get ya feelin good. Always gotta check out the specials because they don't last long and are usually a must have. They also carry homemade popsicles and cupcakes, which are delicious also, but unfortunately I usually never have room for dessert. This place is a New Orleans spot for sure, rockin servers and decor. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Since...it's gotten a little more corporate (if you can say that about a restaurant that only seems to hire by tattoo volume) and now charges for your 2nd basket of chips. That said, they still make some excellent tacos. The burritos are usually 2 meals for me. I just wish they had sangria.

For lunch on Saturday my friend and I stopped in at the Flying Burrito. We ordered some guacamole and chips to start - which was decent - definitely not the best guac I've ever had, but good to munch on. We each ordered a burrito, and I was very satisfied and it was quite filling. The service was decent, we had to wait a few minutes for a table to be cleaned off, it almost seemed as if they were in need of a 3rd waitress to keep up with all of the tables, but it may have just been bad timing on when we arrived. Overall, a good lunch experience and it was relatively inexpensive for the amount and quality of the food.

Juan's is one of my favorite spots in New Orleans. Food is consistently great (the Bacon Azul Quesadilla with Chipotle Ranch... I can't stop ordering it!) and the staff and restaurant are undeniably cool. When in season, they make an amazing crawfish queso that I dream about when crawfish season is over. They always have awesome specials, and they're drinks are cheap and great! I've been going there for 4 or 5 years and they've never let me down.

Juan's is the best mexican food I've had so far in the city. It also has enough tequila for any Cinco de Mayo party, and knows how to work it. Excellent, simple service. Cool decor, if a bit sparce. Wonderful place.

Oh Juan's...how I miss thee. I had the great fortune of discovering Juan's on a recent trip to NOLA (my sister had raved about it and it was conveniently located a block from our condo.) I was a bit hesitant at first as I was still getting used to the heat and humidity and wasn't super hungry, especially for heavy Mexican food. I decided to suck it up and try it...and was immediately in heaven. The homemade guacamole and chips were great, the drinks were fruity, tasty and inexpensive (and they don't skimp on the booze - win!) and the Flying Burrito was heaven. I finished every last bite then went home to curl up in a tiny ball for a few hours and digest. Then I went out the next day and repeated the whole experience again. Sadly my trip was only 5 days long or the staff at Juan's would have seen much more of me! (And my recent weight gain can partially be attributed to this restaurant, not that I'm complaining.) Did you know they have a nice little garden out back? I'm trying to convince my sister to get married there. With Juan's catering of course. LOL

Excellent bartendress here! I'm going to miss sitting at the bar and talking with Lori and Randy when I go home! The happy hour margaritas are very nice indeed! The House Special quesedilla with shrimp is one of my favorite dishes, along with the Shrimp Juaha on the spinach tortilla that is sliced to look like sushi. One of my favorite places to eat when I can decide where I want to go. We end up here more often than not, which isn't breaking my heart at all!

  • Devo A.

The Kamehameha Nachos are fabulous and filling. I was a little worried about what New Orleans would do with Nachos, but they lived up to my Cali tastes. My fiancée and I shared them and were sated. Waitstaff is very friendly, too!

The greatest burrito I've ever had was the "Juan's flying burrito w/ green chili". Outdoor patio lots of beer choices. This place is awesome!!!

  • KK B.

Oh, Juan's. Your salsa and guac are fresh and light, your enchiladas with rice and beans are out of sight. Red-chile chicken & goat cheese quesadillas, jerk chicken nachos... the creole taqueria indeed wins my heart. The mid-city location is staffed by a more bitch-ass, undergrad crew, so if snooty hipster isn't your style, stick with the Magazine Street venue for a bit less attitude. Teas/waters/sodas are huge and almost enough to offset the sodium overload; your head is sure to put the squeeze down on ya, but your tongue won't care a whit. Visit at lunchtime or prepare to wait 45 minutes for dinner.

  • Jonathan D.

The Cucumber Margarita ($6) is delicious, the Chips & Salsa ($2.95) is good, and the so-called Mardi Gras Indians tacos ($7) are mind-blowingly good. Those three items are what I ordered on my first visit to Juan's Flying Burrito, and based on their quality (and the low prices) I decided this was a great restaurant, full stop. However, on subsequent visits I've ordered things like the Super Green burrito ($6.95), or the Jerk Chicken burrito ($7.50), both of which I found fairly flavorless, gummy and unpleasant. These misgivings have been confirmed by friends of mine, who have had similarly bad experiences at Juan's. I guess I got lucky the first time. So I have to give this place an average review. However, if you stick with the Indian tacos and the Cucumber Margarita, you can't go wrong. I haven't tried everything on the menu, as I haven't been back that much recently. Juan's Flying Burrito is hard to recommend strongly, but it's certainly a solid "Mexican" joint with capable hipster waiters, and the prices are hard to beat.

Love this place! Just had a red chile chicken quesedilla--nice combination of flavors, very tasty. I'm also a fan of their salsa, bean dip and creative margaritas.

Juan's surprised me - the first time I went I got the flying burrito and I wasn't that impressed. After returning a few more times, I have found I really enjoy most of their other offerings. The burritos are huge and that's worth points. Service is usually pretty crappy. I would rather eat here than at nacho mama's.

i go to juans a lot. the food is good and reasonably priced....but the waitstaff...ugh. it's like they don't care. we waited at the hostess stand for ten minutes before anyone even spoke to us. then when we finally sat at the dirty table, our server forgot about us. this is just one example, but it's totally typical of every time i go here. if the food wasn't good and cheap, i wouldn't go at all.

We stopped in Juan's Flying Burrito after we spent a few hours wandering around the Garden District looking at all the gorgeous homes. At the moment that I was hoping for some really good food, and Juan's delivered just that! We were seated right away. We immediately ordered some chips, salsa, queso and guacamole while we waited for our burritos to arrive. I was very pleased with everything! Everything was very good. The steak in my burrito was fantastic and I really enjoyed the tortillas. Service was quick and everyone was polite that came to the table. If ever I find myself in the Garden District again - I will be going back to Juan's!

Burritos are really good, but thats the only thing I would order besides tacos. Fajitas weren't good at all.

  • Camille P.

Juans on magazine, you are real cool. Even though I wish some of your entrees were more creative, your drinks are so consistently good and strong, i can't help but give you your props. Love the happy hour vibe and loved those fajita nachos!

  • Nikki W.

The service was great and the location being on magazine st was really convenient, but over all it was very average. I'll admit, I'm not particularly a fan of Mexican food, but other than the salsa it was kinda bland. I ordered the fajitas and my bf the sandwich tacos. If I had to come back here again I guess I would, but I wouldn't go out of my way to.

Great place for vegetarians! Awesome hipster restaurant in the Garden District. Delicious veggie filled tacos (they also have many protein packed options), a long list of margaritas, fast service, and at a reasonable price. What else do you want! I should mention this fare is not throw away "fast casual" but is instead well made, perfectly seasoned tacos that should satisfy even the pickiest of foodies.

Veggie burritos! Needing a quick lunch to-go, we had fate on our side when we walked past Juan's Flying Burrito & saw a plethora of veggie options Chose the Veggie Punk b/c I'm a sucker for potatoes & if you're going to put them in my burrito? Look out! Loved their pinto beans & flavorful rice & this thing was chocked full of jalapenos - SUPER spicy & we were super loving it And their green & red salsas? Whew lawdy they were hot! Wished I had had about 10 more of those little containers! Next time, we're totally dining in & enjoying a frosty beverage, some guac, some burritos...... & maybe another frosty beverage

  • Kate B.

I ordered the signature Flying Burrito for $9. Steak, chicken, shrimp, black beans, guacamole, and rice. Not as large, as say, a Chipotle burrito but the quality was so much better. Very warm and filling. Husband had the red fish tacos. Three tacos with fresh red fish, cole slaw, and pico. Served with a cold savory white dipping sauce. Tasty but too many cold ingredients for my tastes. Atmosphere has just the right amount of grunge and cleanliness. $2 PBRs. Must pay for chips and salsa. We would go again.

If you haven't tried JFB, go now! Had their Jerk Chicken burrito and my friend had their Al Pastor burrito (pulled pork with pineapple salsa) and they were both amazing! Salsa options were delicious, esp their habanero salsa. Ordered to go and they were super fast, barely had time to order two margaritas to go as well before our order was up! Will be back!

Great spot for getting together with friends and having some delicious food and great drinks. There's something about the atmosphere here that I really like, especially when sitting out front or indoors. Out in the back it felt a little isolated but it could have just been the day I was there. The enchiladas I ordered were all gone very quickly. You will definitely like it here!

    (4)
  • B B.

The atmosphere is fun, but definitely not in the top five best Mexican style restaurants in the area. Don't even attempt a margarita. Gross! Portion sizes are large and service is generally good, but our city had way too many fantastic options for food and drinks. At least step up your mixology game!

    (3)
  • Michael D.

Love the burritos and cucumber margaritas. Food comes out fast and furious so if your on a time crunch for lunch it shouldn't be a problem. The only reason I didn't do 5 star is the greetings aren't always pleasant. When we walked in hostess was seating another table and a server walked by and said " hostess will be right back" No hi or hello or welcome. Other than that everything was great!

This place is is not you average Mexican food joint. The food is amazing with a different twist on regular staples. My favorite is the chicken - goat cheese quesadillas. Here's what we got: Bacon Azul (3 big quesadilla triangles) - DELCIOUS & mouthwatering Flying burrito - my boyfriend's entree (devoured it, so I'm assuming it was equally DELCIOUS) Triple dip combo (salsa/guacamole/queso)was good - def finished that off easily! Also got crawfish queso dip, which was awesome! What could be wrong about crawfish and cheese?!? Haha! Service & prices are great and we will definitley be back soon!

I've been meaning to write a review for quite some time and it was probably going to be 4 stars. The laid-back vibe and friendly staff are a good selling point but the food is not that excellent and the matgaritas are horrible. Generous pour, but no balance, I'm thinking the bartenders are not hired as bartenders at first? That's why the 4 stars... But then, today they have a new menu with pretty much everything on it a dollar or so more expensive. I'm usually very generous with stars, once they make some improvements I'll make sure to update my review.

Every time I eat a taco here I say "dang, that was DELICIOUS!" I don't feel the same about the burritos though. Great quirky atmosphere, decent pricing, fairly fast service. The margaritas are excellent. There are several locations, Midcity is the best...but probably gets the most crowded. Parking is problematic at all of their locations.

Chipotle without the chain feel. Absolutely overweight, overstuffed, obese, whatever. This Burrito is just unethical it's so big. I don't want to know how many people have had to get gastric bypass after this colossal burrito. And it taste so friggin good.......... After our lunch, my friend promptly borrowed a forklift to load me on the flatbed of a truck.

Like a lot of cool, popular restaurants or bars in NOLA, Juan's doesnt have to have amazing food, it just has to have hipster cred to do well. This place is fine for dinner and drinks but I wouldnt say there was anything special about the flavor and preparation of the food or drinks.

  • Ryan W.

Over rated.I you are in the immediate vicinity and have to have mexican food (tex-mex) sure thing, go there; but, I would under no conditions exert effort to go here again. Kinda blah, kinda the same as so many other places.

  • Mary H.

Love Juan's! Was the first place I ate in New Orleans when I moved here. Is it Mexican food? No. Is it good? YES. Is it crowded? Of course, but that's why I pick and choose when to eat here--typically Sunday brunch, or I do take-out late, and the busy-ness is the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5. You should go here. It's good stuff.

First off. I am a huge Lucero fan and when you go into this place they have an old poster from 2002 I believe. So that made it for me to begin with. I had a Al Pastor Burrito and it was pretty darn good. I will go back for sure.

Oh juan's... how you have served me well. Very very well. I love your rock edge and you deviant artwork lit by the craziest and best lanterns around. I love your pork quesidilla on cayenne with roasted corn. I love your fish tacos with cilantro and spicy dressing. I love your nachos. I love your guac. I love your killer variety of maragritas. I love your cynical attitude and arms open wide hospitality. More lime? Yes please.

  • Armand A.

Where to start? Let me say that what I had to eat, shredded pork enchiladas, was tasty and the rice decent. The Mexican beer is super cheap, and that's the only authentic item I sampled. Everything else on the menu is either pseudo-Tex-Mex or Caribbean. The salsa they serve with their chips 'n salsa or on their nachos is bland and has this weird okra-like coating. And the service, you ask? ABOMINABLE! We got part of our order wrong, some of our drinks we never got; extra napkins? Sure, no problem! Had to remind our server twice for them All the servers walk about like sleepwalkers, with blinders on because you can't even flag them down successfully! I'd come back just to sample more of their pseudo-Mexican food, except that horrendous salsa, but the service, or lack thereof, really left a worse aftertaste in my mouth than that awful salsa did.

Great music, uber staff, oh and the food. Awesome. We normally start with guacamole, salsa and chips. The chips are hot and fresh. The husband usually has Juan's Flying Burrito or the Gutter Punk. I usually get the Veggie Punk or Sweet-n-Green. We have never had a bad meal there. The only thing to "warn" you about is the music. It is loud and varies from the Ramones all the way to George Clinton. It is very casual. The waitresses are always dressed wild. I love it.

Being a Mexican-American from Los Angeles on a vacation with my wife in New Orleans, I didn't really expect to be eating much Mexican food but we stumbled onto Juan's Flying Burrito and I'm glad we did. The beans and rice with chips we started out with were really good. She ordered the enchilidas with the red sauce and enjoyed them. I had the flying burrito and it was top notch. Something about having chicken, shrimp, and steak all in one burrito. Place looked cool. Service was cool. Prices were cool for New Orleans. Definitely worth checking out.

Juan's is great. I eat here at least twice a week. They have margarita specials for happy hour, and delicious fresh food. I have never ordered anything at Juan's I didn't like. I am gluten free and feel "safe" eating here all the time. Once in awhile they get slammed and the service suffers a bit, but that is my only critique.

So unhappy with these guys. The food is great but the service is beyond worthless. I won't be going back.

The uptown location on Magazine St is our go-to spot. The food is good, the veggie options are tasty, and nachos and burritos are huuuge and full of flavor, and the drinks are great. My personal favorite is the frozen mojito, refreshing! The prices for the amount of food you get are very affordable and usually turn into another meal for me the following day. The service can waver, it's full of hipsters who sometimes have that "holier than though" attitude. We haven't had any terrible service, but nothing exceptional either. It can get crowded quickly in the evenings, has a few tables outdoors and only 4 seats at the bar, but the atmosphere is funky, interesting light fixtures. I would recommend this place to all!

Who doesn't love JFB? My boyfriend eats there a minimum of 3 days a week. It's usually pretty packed, but we've never had to wait long at all. My favorite burrito: the Western with shrimp. Lastly, they have POPSTARS: local popsicles sure to induce a mouth-gasm (trust me).

Update: Wanted to correct the address to the one on Magazine...and Happy Hour at Juan's still rocks, even after three of Lori's double margaritas on Margarita Mondays... Like a lot of locals, I used to think that Taco Bell or Cuco's was real Mexican food. All that changed when I moved around the corner from Juan's Flying Burrito. All my friends were like, "ah, man, you live next to Juan's" and I was thinking, what's the big deal? Dumb response. Juan's is located on Magazine right in the middle of a bunch of antique shops and funky clothing stores. And the place is normally pretty crowded for lunch and dinner. I especially like getting stared at by all the people in line waiting to get in when I just pick up the phone, order and cruise by everyone to pick up my grub (sometimes the line is literally out of the door and onto the sidewalk). If you have the chance to go, do so. Nicely decorated on the inside, this is the place to go for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. Even my co-workers from San Diego say this place has some of the best Mexican food they've ever had! Personally, I like the Flying Burrito (pork, chicken, shrimp and beef with the usual trimmings in a BIG ASS burrito), the chicken tarragon salad and the kick ass guacamole (something I never enjoyed until I had theirs). Like I said, this place/atmosphere is pretty cool, not to mention the waitresses are inked and pretty hot (there is also good eye candy for you ladies too). It is very inexpensive and the food is wonderful...what more could one ask for? BTW, Happy hour is like 6 to 7p where you can get double margaritas for the price of one (using Sauza gold, but they have many other tequilas) - and someone slap me for like, totally using the word 'like'! Good, cheap, Mexican - think Juan's...

I went for 11:15 AM early lunch. My order was the "Gutter Punk" burrito, which was huge and flavorful, and for $6.95, it worked out very well. The wait staff was fine, and the interior is clean and interesting (sort of contemporary corporate hippie Bohemian). I would recommend it and return. RJT

BASIC BITCH. Know the term? This place is that. And, the flocks, er, gaggles of basic bitches with basic ideas and simple palates come eat here to boot. This place represents what New Orleans isn't and every other city is. The food is soulless empty and uninspired. Any other taco joint in the city is 10 fold better. I even tried this place twice. I don't comprehend the allure. Is it hip or trendy? Perhaps. is it the $1 PBRs...? I wonder if you get a pack of American spirits and a fixie to borrow after those delicious cans? whatever it is, I'm not mad at 'em, there food just sucks.

I have been here twice and I am quite a fan! This is one of the few places I have found that is city food without city prices. I have tried Juan's Flying Enchiladas and the Roasted Red Pepper Chicken Quesadilla with Goat Cheese and Cucumber Salsa both were amazing!!

  • Shirley T.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while strolling through Magazine Street. Despite the great reviews, I felt this place was purely mediocre. The service was really just "A-OK". Our waiter didn't seem too enthused to be at work, let alone serve us. The whole place was too reminiscent of a gourmet Mexican spot in Brooklyn, really lacking that NOLA charm. With that aside, the food and drinks were OK. I just wasn't blown away by this place.

  • Sulisa C.

This place had many good reviews so I decided to make this my last restaurant to try before heading back to good ol' Houston. After trying this place out, it tasted like the mediocre taco/burrito places that I've been to elsewhere. I did like the fast service and the uniquely decorated place. It's pretty casual. They also have outdoor seating, which is nice on a warm day. My table ordered the jerk nachos, jerk chicken burrito, flying enchiladas, and the flying burrito. The jerked nachos was my favorite out of all the orders. It was layered with guacamole, jerk chicken, black beans, pinto beans, mango, sour cream and cilantro. The mango made it extra tasty and it complemented the other flavors. Nothing really stood out about the jerk chicken and flying burrito. The portion size was decent and it tasted alright. The flying enchiladas had two different sauces with a side of rice and beans. I guess if I were to choose between the burritos vs. the enchiladas, I'll go with the enchiladas.

I wanted Soooo badly to love this place, just due to the shear facts that 1: it proudly offers vegan and vegetarian options ( see sign outside establishment) 2: I'm just already a huge fan of Mexican food ( which I wouldn't now quantify this place as , after I've taste - tested , but it's what came up as a search header. 3: the staff was friendly, so I wanted to encourage others to eat there. Sadly , the kitchen messed up my order ( SEVERE FOOD ALLERGY) not just once, but THREE times. Seriously. The sweet bartender offered a free margarita as an apology, but I literally could have died if I weren't super cautious about what I eat . To mess it up again twice on a subsequent visit ( I had to give them a chance for redemption), for a total of 3 F-ups in two days, was ridiculous . Even once I finally got food, it wasn't tasty. :(

Happy hour is all day on Sunday, which means $1 PBR and $6 margs (they're gigantic and strong, and had my roomie all a-tipsy). I got the flying burrito, which was definitely tasty. The burrito was solid, but not remarkable, but I would definitely eat it again. One super pro about this restaurant is that there are tons of vegetarian options that won't make veggies feel like they're missing out. My vegetarian friend tried his first enchilada with rice and beans here and thought it was delicious. Definitely a great choice in lieu of a traditional Sunday brunch place

    (4)
  • Toni J.

One of the first spots and New Orleans where there were tons of vegetarian options! Yay... This is a great taco shop in an artsy part of town. We stopped in on a Sunday to find that they had happy hour all day... Too bad we drink too much the night before so the thought of a margarita made our stomachs turn. So we just started off with the chips, salsa, guacamole and queso Trio. The queso was awesome and the guac was tasty too. For my entrée I ordered the veggie punk. It was filled with creole spice potatoes, pinto beans, rice, cheese and jalapenos. It had a good amount of spice but was cooled down nicely with the more mellow items within the burrito. I was very pleased. It was plenty for me to split and bring back the other half to my room for dinner :-) Overall for the price, and the great service, I would highly recommend Juan's flying burrito.

  • Meg H.

Juan's is always a solid choice. Service is fast, menu is extensive, drinks are strong, and it won't break the bank. I recommend the Juaha rolls, red fish tacos, or enchiladas. I'm not giving it five stars because sometimes things are a little off. Last night one of my red fish tacos only had two penny sized pieces of fish in it. That being said, you get what you paid for and at least they're using a local + sustainable fish. They also only serve crawfish in season...some places in the quarter charging $30 a plate don't even do that. The cucumber margaritas are also good. My favorite thing about this place is you could wear pajamas and no one would care. Not true of a lot of spots on magazine.

    (4)
  • Marisa B.

I'm not as big of a fan as most people i know. Nothing is *bad* per se, but I can get better burritos, nachos, quesadillas, and guac elsewhere. Service is always nice and the drinks are great, but I much prefer a night at the Rum House or Felipe's.

  • Sarah D.

This place is solid. I really enjoy walking down Magazine in general, and this is just a fun spot to come into. They have a hostess stand set a little back towards the middle of the restaurant with a few booths in the front and a small bar area. I think there is more seating of tables in the back. I've both dined in and done take out here and have nothing but good things to say. One of my favorite things about New Orleans is there is no open container laws so I often stop in just to get a frozen margarita to go. There is nothing I enjoy more on a hot/humid day than a frozen marg! Theirs is very tasty, especially for the size, price point, and alcohol content ($7). The ones at Superior are a little better because they add Triple Sec, but pricier. I actually don't think I've tried any of their other drinks, but they have a selection of domestic and local beers (I think mostly Abita for the local choices). As far as food goes, I haven't strayed from the nachos yet, but as they are so tasty I'd highly recommend trying other items on the menu. I've done the regular nachos with ground beef, the jerked nachos, and the super nachos grande. Of those I'd say the super nachos were my favorite, but all were great. The jerked nachos had a really nice Caribbean flavor so that was a nice departure from my normal nachos. The service is always very friendly, whether it's the hostess, waiter, or bartender. They are also very speedy about bringing out to-go orders, which I appreciate. As far as Mexican IN the city goes, this gets my vote!

Someone told me the other day that my Yelp reviews are "too nice". I'll admit that unless service is horrible and I really hate the food, I will be pretty generous with my ratings. However, my four stars for Juan's were totally well earned. Juan's is a New Orleans classic for Mexican food. I headed over here for dinner, and since I was in a "burrito" mood, I got the "wet burrito". This is a burrito packed with beans, rice, lettuce and salsa and topped with red chile sauce, melted cheese, sour cream and jalapeños. The burrito is HUGE and was so good. I was going to snap a picture, but before I could, that burrito got ate. The service was friendly and I like that the restaurant itself is dim and kind of cozy. Juan's is small, so there is going to be a bit of a wait for a table, if you go during busy lunch and dinner hours, but I waited less than 10 minutes at 8:00.

The food is decent, though by no means the greatest or most original burritos that I've seen or had. But it is a good price for what you get for the most part. If the review were based on food alone, it'd be three or four stars. What killed it for us was the service. Maybe it was a bad night for our server, and maybe there is a really good reason for how we were treated. (I've worked food service, I get it; people can suck, and sometimes it feels personal, and it sucks to get blamed for stupid crap.) But this was just bad service in every possible way. We waited, and waited and finished our appetizer before our server even took the order for our entree. Our order was wrong, but it took so long for the server to come back and check on us that we gave up and just ate it. I can understand when things are busy that it isn't always possible to check-in with guests a lot, but more than once during the whole meal would have been nice. Long story-short, even if the food hadn't been wrong, it wasn't service worthy of a big tip. What killed it, though, was the server grabbing our credit card slip from the table while we were sitting there, looking at the tip, and then belittling us for not rewarding the crappy service better. Real classy.

Juan's is great for Tex-Mex and drinks, and I've eaten here probably five times . Everything I've ordered has been awesome, with my favorite being the Flying Burrito. The atmosphere is hip but the lines are long to get a table on occasion. However, this is probably the best Juan's location.

Been wanting to try this place, finally got the chance, but was not impressed. We started off with some margaritas, which was pretty decent.. then we got some sangria.. which was infused with blueberries and something else that I cannot recall, that was not good at all. The service was awesome, but the food was just mediocre. We had the following: - Chips and Salsa la Fonda - their salsa was very refreshing and delicious, the prefect amount of heat and acidity - Flying Fajitas - steak, shrimp, and chicken - this was not that great, all the flavors sort of just hide within one another and there were no distinct between any of the meats - Juan's Tacos - (shrimp, steak, and chicken) - three tacos, all again, is only mediocre, nothing great about these at all - Fish Tacos - grilled fresh catch mango salsa and shredded lettuce on grilled corn tortilla - again, nothing special, if anything, probably one of the worst fish tacos I ever had.. - Shrimp Quesadillas - this is probably the best meal of the night, this was way more delicious than the rest of the dishes This place is too hyped up, and is not worth the hype at all.

We stopped in a couple hours before the start of a parade and was pleased and kind of surprised that it was less than a 10 min wait for a table. Even though it wasn't crowded, our waitress was a bit harried and overwhelmed but I was willing to overlook that during this particular week because I've worked in the tourism industry and Mardi Gras week is just a rough one no matter what. Plus, the service is typically pretty good here. I'm a fan of creative and flavorful cocktails so I was all about the blueberry pomegranate margarita while I munched on the chips and queso dip. For my meal, I don't remember the exact name of the dish I ordered but it was basically beef quesadillas with bacon in it and they were so good and so big that I had leftovers for lunch the next day. The place is a total dive, but that's part of the charm. It's often crowded and sometimes loud but it has reasonable prices, good food and outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Hands down one of the best burritos I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I always get the Western Burrito with guacamole and refried beans added in and omg sooooo good!!! They also have fresh made chips and salsa or chips and queso. All of which are amazing! The overall ambiance of the restaurant is great and they have some really cool decorations. They also have an extensive drink menu with very unique versions of the margarita as well as some Mexican beers. Definitely a great restaurant, a local favorite!

I have to start this review by saying that we had just eaten at Commander's Palace the night before. Fast forward 12 hours...I have NEVER tasted food so good in my LIFE! I ventured and tried the Hawaii 5-0-4 nachos and a single pork n slaw taco (on the side just to try)! For those who know me, I don't EVER order anything that I don't consider "safe", aka cheese enchiladas, chicken fried steak, pepperoni pizza, etc., but I am SO glad I did! The grilled mango and pineapple salsa were the items that must have put this place on the map! I HATE mangos, but the combination of sultry flavors are what makes these nachos a dish! I've never seen pork on nachos, so it intrigued me. And whole sliced avocados to boot! Their pork is "off the charts" good! People who talk about the bland food...well, quit ordering the "safe" chicken and cheese quesadillas and let your taste spuds appreciate everything else this menu has to offer. And OMG, the pork n slaw tacos! Ahhhh! I was happy with the mild indigestion I had while walking it off! lol Purple cabbage, salsa, cheddar AND pepperjack cheeses complimented the grilled tortilla and shredded pork so well! If it weren't 6 hours from home, we might go back every weekend!

This place is absolutely delicious! Came here as it was close to where to I am staying and didn't know id find a hidden gem! Ordered the jerked chicken nachos which are the best nachos I have ever had! Then for mains I ordered the red blackened fish tacos which was delicious. Would definitely recommend coming here, it is also relatively cheap for a sit down dinner.

Juan's is definitely a safe bet for fresh, mexi style food in the Uptown area. I find it hard to not have an adult beverage, regardless of the time of day, when dining at Juan's. Their drinks are legit in my book! I'm a fan of the Cadillac Margarita (don julio silver, cointreau, grand marnier) the Frozen Lemon Berry (lunazul reposado, triple sec, strawberry lemonade, sweet lime) and Sangria. The Cucumber Margarita (lunazul blanco, pureed cucumber, sour mix) is also very refreshing. Queso, either with chorizo or without, is my go-to appetizer. Thick, slightly spiced, melty cheese served with freshly made, crispy, salty chips. You can't go wrong with that yumminess. Chicken Bacon Ranch tacos, when offered, are my favorite pick. Juicy pieces of grilled chicken, bacon bits, lettuce, tomatoes and ranch dressing make up this simple, yet so freakin good, meal! When the CBR tacos aren't being made, I like the quesadillas. Steak, chicken.. it doesn't matter. They're all good. Lots of meat, cheese and salsa fillings. Service here has always been stellar as well. Friendly, personable and always workin their butts off. During my last visit, everything came out faster than I would normally anticipate. I was very appreciative of this since I was famished. Maybe she could tell!

I liked the feel of this place, wait staff are super nice and friendly. The burritos are delicious but the steak tacos were not that great. The complimentary chips and salsa were decent. Will go back and try more items on the menu because it seems like a fun little hang out, very laid back. Drinks are super strong.

I visited NOLA back in January for NYE. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner before we left. To this day, we still speak of your bacon bean dip. If that's not a testament of good food, I don't know what is.

Went here today for lunch with a co-worker. The "hostess" threw the 2 menus on the table didn't even walk us to the table. We sat at the table where it's raised in the middle. She actually then was our waitress. We had to ask fro refills and she didn't speak. Very strange. We both ordered the steak nachos. I think taco bell has better steak than what they served me. Very disappointed.

We were looking for some lighter dairy-free and meat-free eats and found them here at Juan's. The guacamole was smooth, fresh and not spicy or oniony like others I've encountered. We had 3 Veggie Tacos with black beans, lettuce, salsa, olives, mushrooms and spinach. They were tasty and a little spicy from the salsa. We also shared a Supergreen burrito. It was a little heavy on grilled onions, and I would have never thought that broccoli would work on a burrito, but it does, and well, I might add. Our server was attentive to our dairy-free (vegan) tendency and while busy, was sure to check on us. The music was a little loud at the table we were originally seated. One of the outside tables opened up, and our server was happy to allow us to move. Definitely will try this again!

In the mood for burritos, we decided to venture to Juan's Flying Burrito located on Magazine St. Not feeling in the mood for meat, I opted for the vegetarian option. I thought this would be a fairly simple order that couldn't be done incorrectly. I was wrong. I ordered the Veggie Punk which included potatoes, jalapeños, pinto beans, rice, lettuce, salsa, and jack and cheddar cheese. Looking at the ingredient list, it sounded like it would be a tasty, vegetarian option for lunch. Unfortunately though, the potato didn't taste cooked enough, there were too many jalapeños, and overall, just unpleasant. I'm not sure if either today was just a bad day for them or their vegetarian offerings aren't very good but the meal was lackluster at best, which I couldn't end up finishing. The venue itself is pretty cool though, with plenty of booth seating around and a full bar, you'll have plenty of choices for seating and for drinks. I may have to go back and give them another chance but as for my first visit, I was pretty disappointed.

Visit this place with your favorite hipster in mind. If you really love him/her, I would go. Very laid back, the service was good but not great. The food was....not as good as a trip to Moe's. Cool location, cool atmosphere. Maybe a place to start you evening? Chips, queso, and guacamole were really good. A drink and appetizer? We had two Western burritos, quesadilla, and fish tacos. Three out of four diners would not select again. In New Orleans why would you?

Went here for dinner. They were very fast, although the place was packed. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. For an appetizer we got queso with chips. It was unlimited. When we finished one plate, they refilled chips and queso. We got a flying burrito with some modifications, steak fajitas and a Mexican roll that was cut in the form of sushi. Everything was very tasty. Definitely a place to hang out with friends. It was loud but you could still keep a conversation. The food is good and inexpensive. We will return

Who comes to New Orleans to get Mexican food? This chick. It was completely worth it too. One night in town, we couldn't decide what we wanted to eat, but we wanted something cheap, so Juan's Flying Burrito came to mind. I figured I'd get the typical mexican fare, but I ended up having what is now one of my favorite salads in ever: the Jerk Shrimp and Mango Salad. The whole menu is full of flavorful combinations, but this salad had all of my favorite things, and it didn't disappoint. Cucumber, spinach, chile lime vinaigrette, crumbled goat cheese, jerk shrimp, mango...ohhhhh yes. When I read on the menu "black bean quesadilla strips" I expected tortilla strips, but you get a mini quesadilla on the side of this salad, yum! My boyfriend got one of the burritos (I believe it was the Al Pastor) and devoured the monster. For a small price tag we were fully satisfied. The service was also great, and I loved looking around at all the pieces on the walls. The servers were on top of their game and had a blast working. Definitely a fun place to stop at in the LGD.

Oh where to start? I caught the tofu tacos. They are completely delish. The house Margarita isn't anything to shake a fist at either. I wanted to eat all three of the tacos but, alas, 'twas too much for me The two i took home reheated nicely in the oven, though. Service was quick and courteous. They didn't make us feel bad for coming in towards the end of the night or anything. Our waitress didn't even mind answering our pointless questions about table names and awesomeness. The board outside said that crawfish tacos are a thing, so I'm gonna have to go back and get there early enough to try those, too.

Juan's flying burrito presents a delicious twist on Mexican fare with excellent portion sizes and the best margarita I have ever had. For starters, get yourself the house margarita. I would describe it as more kick than sugar, lacking on the usual sweetness in most margaritas in exchange for stronger tones of tequila and straight lime juice. Plus it was only 6 dollars. I had the fish tacos in corn tortilla and they were succulent, regionally seasoned, and not overly fishy in flavor. My wife had the red fish version with flour tortilla and shredded cabbage, also very very tasty. Both dishes came with tarter sauce. The plates DO NOT come with refried beans or rice which helps to reduce excessive caloric load and total cost. As it were, most Mexican restaurants up the cost of each plate by conning consumers with these added carbohydrates at a gross steal(beans and rice are cheap to make). I definitely recommend Juan's flying burrito on Magazine st!

Mmmm. So good. My burrito was so huge and good. It was huge and good that afternoon, it was huge and good when I drunkenly needed a little snack and it was huge and good the next morning. Seriously, I snacked on it for that long (I know I am weird and gross). Happy hour has a double margarita for the price of a regular (thus the drunken snack). Hooray!

Short summary: Go here. Go here and eat here. Then do it again, and again, and again. Juan's has an extensive list of food options, with plenty of veggie friendly options to go with that. However, who wants to start with the meal? Let's start with the location. You are about 2 minutes from Anne Rice's house, and in a very hipster/indie area - far enough from the French Quarter to be away from the crowd, but not too far to walk or drive to places like Cochon or the aforementioned Ex- Anne Rice's house (she sold it). There are all sorts of cool little shops, and parking by meter on the street is simple enough (and plentiful). One thing you must get from Juan's is the Chips, Salsa, Guac and Queso. Not only is it delicious, but it's easily large enough for 4 people. Guac was nice and fresh, queso was nice and hot and dip-friendly. I got the flying enchiladas to go with that, which was one of the few times I didn't eat something exclusively vegetarian. I was however, provided awesome black beans and rice to go with that. On the vegetarian front, the sweet & green is delicious, and very large for it's size. Really, the issue here is what Eddie C mentions - there is simply way too much food to eat in a sitting. You're going to have to come here multiple times if you want to have enough room to eat their food. The red & green sauces provided at the table are predictably awesome, and should be generously applied to your personal preference with whatever you order. I am a guy who can eat for two, and between the appetizer and the flying enchiladas, I was pretty well stuffed here. Do come here with an empty stomach.

First challenge: Nearly everything on the menu sounds delicious. Second challenge: Nearly everything on the menu IS delicious. Proposed solution: Go with others, order family style, and split up the entrees. Repeat. Finally, you can achieve this repetitive process of serendipitous discovery quite successfully because this place is incredibly affordable. Oh, and they have 2 for 1 happy hour on their very decent house margaritas until 7p.

I loved this place so much. Started our meal with the trio of dips. The queso and guac were especially tasty. My friend tried the pork slaw tacos ask for corn tortillas) which were recommended byour waiter and I had the jerk chicken burrito. Both were delicious. The menu had a good variety of choices, a little something for everyone.

This place is one of my fiance's favorite places. The happy hour double shot house margaritas are really good. I had the red chile chicken and goat cheese quesadilla and it is awesome! it comes with a side of this white, creamy, cucumber salsa and I loved that!! Yum!!! My fiancé also loves the flying burrito, the fish tacos, and basically anything else you can order here. He eats her three times a week! I will definitely be back.

I like Juan's- great atmosphere, nice and chill. The food is good too and the price is right. I had a plain burrito and my husband got the pulled pork tacos. His we're great. My burrito was good, but was just a burrito. I'll definitely be getting the pork tacos when I return.

"Don't they have aluminum foil where you come from?" The aluminum foil here is seriously dangerous! Not only does it hurt if you accidentally bite down on a piece of it, but it quickly identifies you as a tourist if you mention having done so. See, Juan's Flying Burrito wraps their namesakes (though my burrito stayed quite grounded) in a thin layer of wax paper and a layer of thin aluminum foil. And cutting into it, I know this is a bar and the burrito should be gripped and ripped into, the unsuspecting patron will find their knife slicing through the wax paper and coming up with evil pieces of foil to eat around. Once this elemental problem is solved, however, this is one amazing burrito! It's spiced just enough to make you crave a frosty beverage and its longer than the $4.95 price would suggest (but not stuffed that thick) with the ingredients balanced throughout. One burrito filled me up after a long day of sightseeing. And they serve the food fastt! I had barely placed my order when dinner appeared in front of me as if by magic (so I guess they do fly after all). To wash it down, I got a Hopitoulas IPA off of their extensive local beer menu (pronouncing it wrong to further show I was a tourist). They also had margarita machines straight off of Bourbon Street, but I did not partake. Everything else was much more low key and local. This place has an artsy punk vibe which carries through both the walls and the waitstaff. If this is how the locals live, sign me up! I could see myself becoming quite a regular at this slightly cramped, corner watering hole if I lived nearby. Now that I know how to properly eat here that is.

I am by no means vegan, but I had the vegan burrito and it was great. Extremely rich but it was great nonetheless. It was a great environment to eat. I have yet to try anything else here, but I will definitely be back in the future. I have no complaints.

Not too bad, we had guac and chips + 2 entree (flying enchiladas and flying burrito). Quite good but nothing astonishing. We ended up around 40 Bucks for 2, which is decent. The kitchen looked a little dirty though, So it kind of pushed me back a little on the overall. But judging by the number of customers, no one was paying much attention!

I absolutely love the food here but the service is terrible! Do not go to this one, go to the other locations. They are super slow and will even forget about you sitting at the table outside. I left because I was sitting for 20 min and no server came to greet us and ask for our drink order.

A Taco Tuesday tradition, Mardi Gras Indian tacos are a win. Delicious veggie tacos with pinto beans, corn, red cabbage slaw, and a double corn shell, yum! I'm usually full after one but I can't stop eating them. Start off with the chips, salsa, guac, and queso because all the dips are worth trying. Juan's also offers 2 secret sauces, of the red and green variety, that the server brings out on request. In the beverage category, their house margaritas are okay. I like them well enough but they are not my favorite ever. Juan's, however, does have a good strawberry lemonade. Also, they do have a large beer and tequila selection so their is no lack in libations. Overall a great option for a weeknight dinner!

Huge portions of deliciousness. If you leave here hungry it's your own fault. We had the jerked chicken nachos as well as the Hawaii 5-0-4. Just spicy enough but pineapple with the pico de gallo adds the perfect sweet touch.

I've only had a burrito and their fish tacos (that people rave about). The tortillas for the tacos were a bit stale and cold and the burrito was not flavorful. At least their drinks are good, and I do like the atmosphere.

I came here about 3 years ago and the guacamole left a lasting impression ever since. My daughter and I were in the area and I had to get my guac fix. It was as good as I remember. I can just eat this up with a spoon. The chips are warm and salty. Made fresh, I'm sure. I ordered the Jerked Nachos. O...EM....GEE! Gabe! We're coming back here soon and I want these nachos again! And it's large enough to share.....but I'm not sharin'! (See my pic) Oh, it's cheap too!

Stopped in on our first night in New Orleans and it was awesome. Great atmosphere, great food, fast and friendly service, delicious happy hour drinks... the chicken spinach and goat cheese quesadilla and fish tacos we had were delicious, but we probably didn't even need to get anything after the Hawaiian pulled pork nachos we had as an appetizer (my husband said they were the best nachos he's ever had). Would absolutely go back if we lived here!

  • Maggie L.

We had the jerk nachos, which was delicious. it was layered with jerk chicken, guacamole, mango, sour cream and pinto beans. the hint of mango gave it a nice kick. I also had the Jerk Chicken Burrito. I was expecting more, but the jerk chicken was disappointing. It was more on the dry side compared to the jerk chicken i've had in Jamaica. however, the avocado in the burrito made it a nice treat.

this place is pretty good. i usually go with a burrito, but recently i decided to try something different. i chose the hawaii 5-0-4 nachos, and the chicken and goat cheese quesadilla. the nachos blew me away. the portion size is ridiculous. this thing can feed a family of 4, easy. i had to put my quesadilla on the side while we chiseled away at the nachos. my friend and i filled up on the nachos and still have more than half of our quesadilla for lunch the next day. we also got to enjoy some beer at very reasonable prices. the waitress was nice and was around if we ever needed her. the wait was a bit long, but thats what happens when people enjoy the food and insist on coming back. overall, the experience was good and i would definitely recommend if your looking for a mexican inspired dinner.

  • Lex C.

Let's start off with the food. As a starter, my top choice is the chorizo queso. The queso is so delicious and housemade! What! All their burritos are great. However my favorite? Their Bacon Azul quesdilla. It is to die for! Not usually a fan of blue cheese, but the mix of it with the cheddar cheese, ground beef, bacon, and grilled onions makes it mouth watering. Dip in the ranch and it's heaven. Let's take a sip of that margarita! Amazing! If you're in a group, you can definitely split a pitcher for the table! And the prices? Beyond affordable, especially for a sit down place! Now make sure to get there early because it can get pretty full most nights! However, I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a table.

Recently returned from a trip to New Orleans and decided to make a trip to this place. Creole inspired Mexican food seemed interesting to me. I ordered the nachos and Al pastor burrito - both were pretty bland and cold. The service was terrible. It took forever to get our orders, and everything we asked our waiter for was wrong. Wrong drink, wrong food item, and wrong way in splitting our check. I really wanted to give this place a fair shot as it is nicely decorated and in a cool neighborhood, but I didn't think I would ever recommend this place to anyone.

  • Zoe B.

I might be biased being from California, but Juan's doesn't do much for me in the burrito department. I ordered the super burrito (with sour cream and guac) with steak and there was no sour cream and barely any guac so I had to ask for more. It was pretty tasteless and definitely nothing to write home about. On the other hand, the queso is pretty good and I have had the nachos before and they are pretty good as well. Overall, will not be returning and you can find better burritos at Chipotle and better nachos at Rum House.

  • David G.

Service is fast but food is average at best. Juans flying burrito was pretty bland. I figured with chicken shrimp and steak it would be very favorable but I wasn't. Decent spot for some quick food but certainly didn't live up to the hype

  • Morgan D.

I really don't get it. There is absolutely nothing impressive about this place. I haven't had a single meal I'd come back for. The bean and bacon dip was too thick to eat with chips. The jerk chicken in my burrito was beyond bland. The veggie punk burrito I asked for "super" the first time I came there... the guy who took my togo order acted like he'd never heard of the term and it came without cheese somehow. The nachos needed more toppings. Also there is literally nothing creole about the menu. It's just mediocre not-quite-Mexican (I can't call it fusion or tex-mex because there's just no creativity on the menu. It's like someone who has only heard stories about Mexican food decided to open a Mexican restaurant). I guess there's a lot of hype because it's the only boring burrito to be had in this town. They retain two stars for good service and a frozen mojito that was pretty delectable. I've tried three times, though. I might stop in for a drink togo if i'm in the area, but I won't bother with their food anymore.

I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could try more different menu items than one, but I cant. The portions are always big and I can never make it comfortably beyond any app and a main dish. I doubt I will ever see a dessert from JFB. The aura of the location is what you would expect from a older establishment on Magazine...kinda cramped, very cluttered looking and maybe a little dingy. Not a issue at all. The staff are very friendly and are well "tatted" up. The crowd is very mixed. Suits, hipsters, regular people with kids and straight up hungry folk like me :-) Everything comes out right everytime, food is really good! The spicy stuff fogs my glasses up everytime. Beer selection isn't all that but im not here to drink, here to eat. The strawberry lemonade is soooo yummy too. The guacamole, my date and I destroyed it with very little effort...make sure you get that! The order comes out quick, so have no fear if you see a huge crowd or its lunch time. You will make it :-) The back room can be kinda chilly though, so ladies, bring a sweater just incase.

I always recommend Juan's to visiting friends, describing it as "New Orleans-style Mexican." The label of Mexican and Cajun/Creole is accurate, but creates an amazing hybrid of food. The food is always delicious, the servers a little surly, and the atmosphere always relaxed. Scarcely a week goes by when we haven't eaten there (maybe twice), and it's nice to run it for a happy hour cocktail and snacks for the night. Our favorites include: the Luau quesadilla (I substitute chicken for the shrimp), the Hawaii 504 nachos, the gutterpunk burrito, and the Southwest Cobb salad (in case you feel the need to be quasi-healthy). They're always willing to make substitutions in our meals without cause or complaint, and happy hour is the best. Double margaritas for $5 - paired with a basked of chips, guac, and queso, it's the perfect way to unwind after work! Everyone we've taken to Juan's has loved it and always wants to return when visiting!

I have been here several times and every time I'm amazed at how delicious everything is. Fresh and flavorful! The house tacos are great as i love Caribbean food. The juaha roll was delicious and a good veggie option. Yay for happy hour margaritas on the rocks! 5$! Perfect. The staff were great every time I've come. The music and atmosphere are consistently great as well. I'm looking toward top eating on the back patio next time.

This is a great place for a quick lunch if you work in the city. The girls and I frequent Juan's at least once a month. It's great Mexican food for a great price. The atmosphere is pretty New Orleans, a little busy, but laid back at the same time. The house quesadilla is good, but sometimes it can be a little too much flavor for weaker stomachs.

Always an amazing experience!! Great staff, excellent margaritas, and delicious food...THE place to go for burritos and your Tex Mex/Mecican cravings...everyplace else is almost always a let down and I find myself saying I should have gone to Juan's. Get there early though, there is almost always a line out the door past 7...

While our meal was the least memorable of any during our extended stay in New Orleans it was by no means terrible. Think 'highly mediocre' instead. The misses - the Mardi Gras Indians plate lacked any spice/flavor/sauce and needed a good kick in the pants to bring it up to something better // the pricing for the burrito special was too much by about $4 and I'm not a cheapo by any means but by golly in New Orleans you can get a crackerjack meal for $14 and this burrito was not one of them // no sides served with the goods which made that $14 burrito sting even more. But there were a good number of hits. The house margarita was strong // the PBR cheap (and added to the margarita to take away a bit of the sweet...just a personal preference) // the patio breezy // the staff more than helpful and friendly // the place super tidy and organized. We were even offered a 'refill' without knowing the perk beforehand. The salsa and queso? Pretty damn good! Overall? A very okey dokey experience.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
